I'm thinking of buying a new wheelset so I can switch between a roadset and one for dirt roads/unpaved paths. However, I have dual disk brakes. Will the braking suffer since the pads will have to adjust to a new braking surface with each wheel change?

Depends on the wheelset and the build. I have two pairs of Offroad wheels and to change between the different sets does not cause a problem.. Providing you have the same hubs and they are identical then there will not be a problem. I presume that even with two different hubs you could set them up with the disc in the same place.

Just realised that I am talking about the other problem in that two different sets of wheels may have the disc in a different plane- but this can be adjusted to conform. Changing wheels over will not cause a problem to the pads as long as the discs are the same material and thickness. Differnt grades of steel could give you a different braking effect but should not bother the pads at all.

Thanks stapfam. I thought disk brakes had to set-in for about 100 miles before they braked well. Maybe the pads don't have to match the rotors exactly. I'll be using the same type of rotor though. The hubs will be different so I may have to adjust the caliper.
