When my helmets get funky - I put them on the top rack of the dishwasher with the post wash drying heat cycle turned off. It's worked great for me.

Any other suggestions? Especially for full face helmets that won't fit in the dishwasher and don't have a removable lining...

I take mine in the shower and shampoo it (no creme rinse), then hang it out to dry.

Most times I just rinse it out with the high-pressure nozzle on the garden hose, making sure to rinse out each of the pads really well. Every now and then I'll fill a sink with water and Woolite and wash it that way.
