Hi,
I've decided it's time to get back to biking. I've always been a cyclist; built and maintained my own since I was 13. I've never had a body that was high performance, but it usually went the distance :). Since I became a dog owner in 2002, cycling gave way to walking. Then about 15 months ago I had a stroke, which left my left side weak. Walking is no longer so easy. My weight (already a problem) just got worst as a result. My knees are suffering, and my dog has gained 20lbs!!
So I've been thinking about cycling again. I was thinking of a small wheel folder that I could easily put in the car and take to the park with my dog. However, they don't support weights above 240lbs typically. I came across Sheldon Browns Raleigh Twenty bike on the web, and was a little inspired. I managed to find one here in Texas (I'm an ex-pat Brit) and am in the process of upgrading and updating it at the moment.
So I thought this might be a place to ask some questions. It's a "big hairy-ass goal" but thoughts of doing the MS150 in 2008 on a Twenty have sneaked into my mind. Gotta be better than black thoughts of blood clots and death....
