Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - Getting my Volae Expedition Rando Ready

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I installed a Terracycle Over/Under Idler kit on my Expedition as well as a Terracycle Light Mount and a Solidlights 1203D headlamp. I am still waiting on a rim so I can build up a SON Dyno Hub wheel and test it out.

I put pics on my rando blog at http://thelazyrandonneur.blogspot.com/

My first brevet is a 200K on 21 April. I'll have minor surgery on 23 April so I'll take two weeks off and hit another 200K on 5 May. I have revised my goals to complete a 200K, 300K & 400K brevet in 2007. I am not shutting the door on the longer events, but I want to focus on these distances and see how things pan out.

I have enjoyed everyones brevet reports so far - keep 'em coming and good luck on your rides....:)

vik,

Great looking bike. Let us know how it compares to your other ride(s).

I have been thinking about upgrading from a RANS Rocket to a Volae. Probably just a dream.

I have been thinking about upgrading from a RANS Rocket to a Volae. Probably just a dream.

I love my DF bikes and will never give them up for much of my riding, but you just can't beat the comfort of a good recumbent for rides over 3-4hrs. My Volae is definitely a slower climber than my road bike so my overall riding times will be longer, but the reality is I would not be able to ride a 200K comfortably enough on a DF bike to want to finish the ride - let alone a 400K or 600K+.

That's just my body and ergonomics. I am not a recumbent preacher who thinks they are superior to DF bikes. They both have their pros & cons.
