I still have my old Shimano Sante Cranks with the original slightly used Biopace Chainwheels(52T-42T). I'm planning to use them again...

Is the Sante Gruppo a recreation group or a sport group? Is it in the same level as the 105's? lower? higher???? I was about 12 when I got this, and wasn't very particular on groups then.. And really, don't remember the 80's that much...

Thanks...

The Sante was a pretty high-end grouppo. It was supposed to be just below Dura-Ace and slightly above Ultegra 600. As I recall, it looked pretty snazzy and sleek.

Seems like Sante was one of the first to sport a pearly satin-like finish.

Probably about mid 80's ? Some club riders I rode with back then were using it.

yes... its all white(powder)... And is really very good condition.. I don't think I put on more that 200kms on this one..

I guess this is the "most" high-end component I have...

Thanks.

I'll post pics.. its now at the shop.. I'm having it refinished.. the white powder finish seems to fall off by itself...

Man, do I remember. My buddy has some of the parts on his 'collecotr' case at his shop. However not really a collectors item but a rarety that many riders now days never knew was around.

Basicly a white Shimano 600 gruppo in the mid 80s. Didn't stick around long though.

It was a limited editon groupo. Basically 600EX warmed over before the name change to 600 Ultegra which was that dark almost gun metal grey.

Sante was primarily marketed in Japan
(may have had a different name?), a high
end gruppo which fused function with art
and japanese asthetic.

I picked up a complete Sante gruppo at a blowout sale in like '90 or '91. It was so cool opening the big heavy cardboard Shimano box and finding each part in a little Shimano display box. Unpacking that group was like Xmas squared.

Nice stuff... I remember the quality to be 600 Ultegra level. Shifting was pretty crisp.

I used the parts on my winter mount and they served me well for several years until I sold the bike.
