The new Shadow hub is out, but honestly, who is going to buy it? It costs just about as much as a Profile hub. What's the deal here? I bet it's a great hub, but it can't be $160.

I wonder if they fixed the driver problem?

MTB's got it from roadies...

FitRider 921

Yeah, I know that whole point and it's origins... but the price? Who would buy a Shadow hub for pretty much the same price as a Profile hub?

wethepeople
02-09-07, 10:23 PM
How many pawls does the profile have?

FitRider 921
02-09-07, 10:26 PM
Not as many... but Profile is a more trusted name and their hubs are known to be reliable.

Let's take a poll...
Profile hub
Shadow hub

pick one

Shadow hub, I like the idea of more pawls.

Speaking of Shadow.

The guy from warranty e-mailed me back saying he too (along with 2 local bike shops and myself) couldn't get the old outter shell of the blown up bearing out from the driver. So he's sending a new one free.

Only like 3 weeks later!

The new hub seems nice and mines never had troulbe engaging or anything but the bearings are just small and wide. Most hubs use multiple bearings in their drivers, not just one long and thin needle bearing.

Can't forget to buy their new Ti seatpost for $100.

FitRider 921
02-10-07, 10:52 AM
Yeah, if anyone buys that seatpost, you are just stupid. The Shadow seat is good, but it's not that great where you really need to save weight and get the Ti seatpost. Just get a seat/post combo and you will save a lot of weight, and money.

Most seatposts weigh next to nothing when you cut them down and slam the seat anyway.

That hub would be considered cheap over here. About the same price as a Coalition or a Macneil or something. Ridiculous

And it's sure as hell not worth it. I allready ordered a Fit post. As soon as i get money it will be that and a Camo Coalition seat, Primo Wall and Primo Dirt Monster waiting for me at the local shop. Until then...i'm broke.

You can tell you are a trails guy... I, on the other hand, ride street. Not really needing dirt tires.

Odyssey dirt path front, path rear. Or ruebens, or asms front and back, or glh front asm rear.

Primo Wall's are great park/street tires. Really thick.

The dirt monster was just what i'm getting but two Primo Wall's or maybe an Animal or V-monster in the front would work...

Either way Primo Wall's are great all around thick as hell tires.
