General Cycling Discussion - Aaaargh...Changing mindset is tough

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I had a great opportunity to bike an errand this morning. Got back from walking the dogs (1 mile each x2 dogs), and was planning to do my "training" run, when my wife asked me to pick up some supplies for our two sick children. Yes! Bike to the store (1.1 miles each way), put the supplies in the backpack, and leave the car at home! But then I couldn't find the lock. 15 minutes of looking and still no lock. So I ended up driving :irritated
However, I learned my lesson. This weekend I will find the lock (and patch kit) so that I will be ready the next time. :D

Kevin,
Maybe you should get another lock and leave it at work. That's what I do.
That patch kit is very important too!
I'm amazed at how many cyclists I encounter with a flat and no patch kit. Just a pump.
Maybe they think the tire is just out of air and that a pump is all they need. ;)

You mean... ...so that's why my pump never works! :crash:

Today I left work late, had a flat on the way home (replaced it with a spare...I will patch the flat later and use it as the next spare), and got home in the rain.
My wife was not home with the car and I needed some things at the store, so I emptied some things out of my pack and left straightway. I accomplished my mission and as I left to come back home (about 3 miles round trip) the rain became torrential.
When I arrived (again) my 16 year-old son and 6 year-old daughter were waiting on the front porch. Overcome with the excitement of my arriving in such a downpour, my daughter danced out into the rain to greet me, smiling and laughing (and not minding a bit.)
I could get to like this lifestyle (especially the part where people are still watching you because you stand out like a sore...no, a "healthy" thumb!)
