Mountain Biking - whats the point of 24" wheel for freeride or DH?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was looking at, errrr... drooling at the Norco Sasquatch and the Torrent and I noticed that the Torrent had a 24" in the back, is that for climbing hills? If its not then whats the point?

I'm curious about this too...my understanding is that you can roll over just about anything with the bigger tires. I think I read in a magazine that they required less effort to cover more distance but I could be off.

hmmm... thats interesting. I like acceleration but I like top speed better, if I need to accelerate faster then I just put it in a lower gear.

From first hand expieriance, if you ride very rough trails a 24" whell sucks. It will want to stop every time it hits a rock or small lip whereas a 26" would roll right over. Other then that everything in the other thread is good to go.
