The adventure continues…
It’s been a while since I’ve updated you from the road. Well, I’m just about to get back on it. I finished cycling North America last December, ending the trip in San Diego and left my bike with my friend Andy. The first couple weeks of January were spent with my family and friends in South Florida and then I left for work in Alaska to replenish my funds for the next part of the trip, cycling Central and South America.
Work in Alaska was pretty satisfying. I was able to get plenty of work and El Nino made sure we had an uncharacteristically mild winter. After a week in Anchorage, a couple in Seattle, I made my way down to San Diego, where my bike was waiting for me.
By the way, my cycling journey is no longer a solo one. I have partnered up with a free spirited French Canadian named Alexandra who I met in British Columbia last year during my trip. Alex expressed interest in joining me for the rest of the trip while I was working in Alaska. Through our months of email communication, I developed a sense of her personality that made me confident that this partnership would be a valuable addition to the trip.
I’ve been in San Diego for 2 weeks. I’ve been able to see some old friends, see some wonderful sights in the area, and even spend time with my family who came over for a visit before I left. I’ve gone on some leg stretching bike rides, gotten sun burned, and have even gone into Mexico to check out Tijuana. After a nice tune up, the bike is running smooth and is ready to go. Am I? Of course I am. I am eager to experience the cultures of the upcoming countries. I know there will be some new challenges and some familiar ones. I can’t wait to dive into Spanish and start communicating.
On our second to last day in the USA, Alex and I are busy putting our things in order for the trip. I haven’t been able to get into the writing mood just yet, but I hope that when I am back on the road, some of my familiar habits will easily return. In short, I hope to stay in touch and share with you all as much of the upcoming trip as possible. Look forward to more photos and stories.
