I got out on a frozen lake today during a MTB ride, and after the initial fear of falling on my butt, had a fun time doing figure eights and burnouts. There were icy spots on the trails, and the tires bit right in. I'm sold!

Burnouts and donuts? I'm not sure that is the intent of studded tires, but whatever turns your crank.

A lot of sliding will knock some studs out.

Did you do the recommended break in ride on pavement first? That will help seat the studs properly and they will stay in place better.

Yep, I did 35 miles or so on the road first. I was just having fun on the ice today seeing how much traction was available. If we would ever get some snow and ice on the trails, I would gladly use them for what they are intended for!:)

If you ever do knock out a stud they are easy to replace.
People have been having trouble buying them now I hear.
Don't throw away old stuuded Nokians the studs don't get shorter, they sink into the tire more. The studs are salvagable.
