Hi, I am looking at new road bike (sure this has been posted before) and I need it to be affordable for sure. I love bianchi, but $$, yikes. Currently, I am riding a heavy 8 year old Trek and actually have raced with it, so anything would be a step up. I looked at the Fuji Ace, because of price but realize its not in the league. A few questions, one what is the advantage for 650 tires? (I am a female and 5'2") Secondly, What is a good choice, that is affordable for touring mostly? Thanks, Donna

I can not answer the wheel size question but I can address the cost issue. I usually buy everything from my 3 LBS but my last bike was off eBay, I got a new 2002 in January for $1,000 less than the same 2003 from a dealer wanting to unload old stock. You have to do your homework and be sure of what you are looking at. I contacted the dealer and arranged some swaps in case I didn't like the fit. He swapped out the stem for me, I just paid the postage. I do all my own work except wheel truing so service isn't a problem. One LBS has some great deals on previous year bikes so shop around yours and be flexable. Good luck!

Go by a few shops and do research online. I know a few manufactureres are fiannly making great bikes for riders about 5'5" and shorter with 700c wheels.

You get a nice compact frame with a nice top tube all with the 'standard' 700c wheels.

However if you opt to go 650c it is no problem now days as finding rims, and tires is easier than before.
