I did my usual ride, from Back Bay to Irvine park.
They call it the Mountain to the Sea trail, although the "Mountain" is an ant hill
with an elevation of about, oh I guess 500'.
It was 37.6 miles, with some small hills thrown in.

I was shamed!! A Guy on a Huffy passed me, three times!
Well, that's not really accurate. Everytime I stopped at a red light,
this dumba** blew through it and yelled at all the cars ( as they were slamming on the brakes)
how he had the right of way and they need to go f*** themselves.
Now, if Darwins natural selection holds true, he probably won't be around much longer.

All in all, a good ride with some entertainment thrown in!

Now, where did you ride?

I did the Montrose short route with a bunch of guys, but not with the main pack. Did about 35 miles.

A flat ride from Palos Verdes to Santa Monica... ate a gigantic custard-filled pastry in Venice... rode to a Torrance hobby shop for some enamel paint to patch a chip in my bike's finish... then back home. 60 miles. Very nice weather, not a lot of runners/cyclists on the path, great day for a ride.

About 35 miles with BCI (Bike Club of Irvine). Pretty flat, but at a good pace. It was all in Irvine though.

:( Nowhere. Theres either lots of snow or lots of Salt wherever you go. Oh, and the -20 wind chill doesn't help either. Sighh..... spring, please come fast!

Did a road ride in Rancho Cucamonga from Foothill up to Lytle Creek Ranger Station and back. After everybody else went home I threw in an extra 7-8 miles so I got in about 35 today. I think this is going to be my regular Saturday ride. Its being taken over by The Cycling Connection so I guess I'll be riding with them.

Slow ride north from San Diego, up the coast hwy. Three of us went from Mission Bay to Solana Beach, downed a latte, and rode back. Total, door-to-door, 43mi, 1660ft of climbing (if you trust RouteSlip).

It was a slow ride because I'm having tendonitis aches. Haven't had a day off the bike in three weeks. Tomorrow is a rest day.

I rode SART today. I was hoping to eke out 100 but I cut it short at 72. Oh well, next time! :D Passed Mr. Beanz and who I assume was his wife! Didn't stop but I managed to get out a 'hey' as we passed. :p

Ran into 'LewisAClark', a new BF member.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l267/gulpxtreme/LewisAC.jpg
Then ran into Jack. Met him 10 years ago on the trail. Once watched him single handedly destroy a race team with his 24 mph average. Now he shows mercy and crusies along with us on his bent. Oh, his 24 mph was on an upright custom made 'Zunow'. This guy taught me that it doesn't matter what you wear, it all depends on if you can kick azz or not!

So that was Beanz and his cycling wife I passed twice today. Once near the beach, you guys were heading south and it didnt' occur to me that it might be you until the moment had passed, then somewhere around 12 miles from the beach as I was heading south I saw you again. I recognized you this time, but after 65 or so miles my brain just didn't engage soon enough to say anything.

I also saw Tiff south of Gypsum Canyon Rd. She was headed south and I was still going north to my turnaround. Once again by the time I noticed the BF Jersey it was too late.

My overall ride was Coyote Creek to SGRT to Seal Beach to Huntington, then SART to Gypsum Canyon back home the same way. 100.65 miles in 6:04 with no stops for my February Century. The headwinds back towards the beach and then along PCH were miserable though, especially since I didn't even have the joy of a tailwind on the way back. Funny how the wind always starts near my turnaround.

Ahhhh, I was wondering if there was anyone else out there. Did I look miserable? I never look forward to the return trip on SART. :o :p

8 miles tooling around the quiet neighborhood streets this morning. My shoulder is finally ok enough that I can get back to riding with some regularity, but there's still some discomfort/fatigue if I ride more than 40ish minutes so I'm keeping my rides short until my shoulder lets me ride longer. :)

You will and you'll like her, everybody does !:D....She had a very bad spill a few years ago, so I don't do anything suddenly. Short notice the first pass, and I wanted an action pic the second.

Yup, bents look fun but I will never sit on one.....I might like it!

Seriously though, I didn't ride today...I was really looking forward to the Palm Springs one but I suddenly got sick last Sunday mid-ride and as of today I'm still suffering :(

Glad you had a nice ride!!

I use Nail Varnish, works perfectly...even the clear works on Carbon Fiber to cover scratches...it's sometimes best to dab the paint into small chips with a Tooth Pick reather than use the brush...

Sorry if you already know all this...:)

Hi,

Rode a fairly easy 42 miles with my club (usual Saturday social ride). Went to a friend's Tour of California party in the afternoon for a short time before heading up to Burbank for my Dad's 78th birthday and Chinese New Year dinner. Tried not to eat too much as I am racing tomorrow if it's dry.

I live at La Habra and Beach Blvd in La Habra. I took La Habra Blvd out to Brea Canyon Road which I took north to Pathfinder. Took Pathfinder over to Hacienda, and down Hacienda to West Road. Took West over to Santa Gertrudes, and then back home via a residential route.

My brother, sister-in-law, and her uncle kept going past La Serna High School up to Colima. On Colima they went back to Hacienda, which they took northbound to... some street or another which cuts up to Turnbull Canyon Road. From Turnbull they took Painter down to Whittier Blvd, and Whittier Blvd back home.

From La Jolla/UTC 20 miles North on PCH and then back. That Torrey Pines hill is a good challenge after a very fast 35 miles behind you.

P.S. I did the ride with a couple of buddies of mine who happen to be WAY too slow for me (so I left them behind)...Anyone in the La Jolla/UTC area need a riding partner or have a group that they ride with on a regular basis that maintains an intermediate/advanced level pace?

I am usually between 18-23mph for flat or minor inclines. Obviously, things slow down on the hills. (my end goal, in June, is to do a half-ironman so I am working on both speed and distance ability).

My computer said the ride took 2:20 for 42 miles. The cyclo-computer stops counting when stopped at stoplights, etc, so the ride took longer real time, but 2:20 of ride time.

Sounds about my pace. I can only go about 25-26mph max on the flats with my singlespeed, but usually stay in the low 20's most of the time and I hammer the short rollers along the coast.

Just join the SDBC group rides starting from UC Cyclery on Saturday and Sunday mornings. They have A through C- groups. Somewhere in there I am sure there is a group that can kick your #$#. :D

The ee'ees at UC Cyclery mentioned that group to me. Is there anything I have to do to "join?" Can I just show up on Saturday morning? I think someone said they meet at 8.

And, absolutely, there are going to be plenty of people who are going to "kick my azz" as far as cycling goes.

Is the group friendly and welcoming to newcomers?

Thanks.

Turned out to be a beautiful day.

Rode solo from Marina Del Rey, to Palos Verdes switchbacks and back. My first metric century of the year and one tiny step closer to getting back to shape.

Haven't gone yet myself. I've talked to to some of the people who do go. Seems like a friendly crowd and the rides are open to anyone - no need to sign up. Check out the SDBC website for route and time info.

I did this for a duathlon today in 40 minutes:

http://www.routeslip.com/map.php?map=21520

In the pouring rain. 50 degrees. I know i know, it's only about 9 miles, but there was a 3 mile run before and after the ride. Finished in under 2 hours i think... Got 2nd place in my age group (just ignore the fact that there were only two people in my age group). :D I guess i got kinda lucky everyone was wanting to do the triathlon instead (it would have been a 100m swim instead of a second 3 mile run at the end). But i didn't want to bust out my wetsuit and i struggle at swimming without extra flotation...

But yeah, it was pouring... There's nothing quite like shooting down a hill at 25mph with rain stinging you in the face. I might have gone faster if i could have seen better through my water droplet covered sunglasses...

My bike sooooo needs to be cleaned now.

I rode PS century yesterday and just got back from my 35 mile recovery ride. I headed out from Sherman Oaks (my doorstep) to Griffith Park, climbed one hill (and said to self, "no frickin' way am I doing anymore climbing today"), hit the rollers on Zoo Drive to Los Feliz and then did intervals on the bike path. I ran into Danaxles60 (Sal) who was out doing some speed work. It was nice to see him. There were lots of other riders out as well. Gorgeous out there but a little windy. :D

Rode a mtb today for the first time in about 15 years. Big John took me on the fire roads of Topanga State Park (http://tinyurl.com/2mukdh), which are just perfect for some scenic trail riding with a fair amount of hills.

I am stoked... but I think this means more shopping. Don't tell the wife.

Went out and did some hill repeats at max effort. Then did another 20 miles. The hill repeats were 2.14 miles and varied between 6 and 16% average of 10%. It was a punishing thing to do, with an average HR of 182. I signed up for an onliine coach and that was part of my first workout.
