Mountain Biking - Hydration

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Is CamelBack or HydraPack better?
HYDRAPACK!!!
Seriously Blackburn does IMHO make a better pack. That and Camelback supported the Roadless Area Initiative so they get not one cent from me.

I personaly have a Camel Bak HAWG (100oz'er). I love it! I wouldnt trade it for anything. When i purchased it two years ago, there was nothing else on the market that could compare to it. Now there are quite a few hydration systems, and im not all to familar with whats out there.

What was that?
Joe,
does the HAWG's size bug you when you are riding hard?

Not usualy, It did at first, but once i had it adjusted correctly most problems have gone away. The newer hawg's are designed quite a bit better then mine, so you should have less problems. I purchased a hawg becouse i used to do amazingly long rides (8hrs & 80miles off road), i needed something that could hold 200oz of water (two bladders), my firstaid kit, cellphone, two tubes, a mini-pump, my wind pants / jacket etc... The hawg was the only one that fit my requirements.

Wooooooeeeeee!!!!! You are hard core man!!! I'm looking at lousy(compared to you) 70 oz things with maybe 100 cubic inches of storage.

I first bought a Camelbak Rogue (70oz.) for shorter rides and liked it so much I bought a MULE. (100oz.) I still use both but the MULE is great. Lots of storage. It's Camelbak's best selling hydration pack from all I've read about it. DG

Geez, Joe, 8 hours and 80 miles? Wow! Is there some sort of companion product to the Hawg? Like "The Cup", or "Mister Porta-Potty"? Man, I think I've got an idea for yet another product for cyclists! ;) Sure, you're laughing now, but when you see my infomercial, I'll be laughing all the way to the bank, baby! :D

The Roadless Area Initiative:
There are several things I will point you to. One is here: http://mtbdogs.homestead.com/issues.html
When you get down to the bottom of the page click next. There are two specific links about it. There are many more links there that will also help you if you lok through them. The second is to click on Roadless News. The third is to just do a net search on Roadless Area Initiative. Like many of the "green policies," there are the benefits and the negatives. However the negatives outweigh the positives in this one. Like C.A.R.A that just recieved over 260 supporter's in the U.S. Hose Subcommitte.
You were against the RAI?
I'm not trying to put you on the spot, I am just curious.

Yes!
Well, I got a CamelBak, I would have preffered HydraPak but thsi was a steal. It is a CamelBak Rogue, my boss got it on clearance and never used it, so I bought it from him for 20 bucks. Such a deal!!

I've got a Rogue too Fubar. Still use it a lot. It's perfect for shorter rides. Just doesn't have a lot of storage for the long ones. You'll like it. :D DG
Thanks DG. I don't do a lot of long rides so the rogue should fill the bill, I was getting tired of trying to get water out of a bottle on the trail.Never take you eyes off the trail on singletrack, cuz it will check your oil.
