OK so I'm replacing the left shifter cable on my Dura Ace 7800 system.

My problem is that the barrel piece on the end of the shifter wire won't seat into the hole in the brifter.
I turned it around (just to make sure it fits) and it pops in no problem, but when I thread the wire through all the way the barrel won't go into the hole. Just not the right angle. Do I have to dismantle the brifter to get this to seat?

So I am asking the experts here what the trick to getting this barrel seated it.

Thanks in advance.

Is it in the wrong position? In other words, is it sitting in the position for the large chain ring instead of the small chain ring?

Downshift all the way before installing the cable.

Duh-oh! Thanks guys.

This is why you don't work on your bike after a 16 hour work day...
