Omg, I fell down AGAIN and my injury is at the same spot as my previous spot (and its still healing) Noooo!!!, and now since my mom is fed up of me falling down she Is going to buy me a knee/shin guard, Noooo.

Anyway since she is forcing me to wear it, she allow me to choose it, so Im planning to get a knee/shin guard that is erm......able me to pedal??? as if will not affect my pedal. Damn this sucks, a XC rider wearing a knee/shin guard

what's so bad about wearing protection? if you're wearing jeans they'll go right over them. downhillers, freeriders, dirjumpers all wear protection. you can never have enough.

Who are you referring this too? Me? Damn you should go to some english class to UNDERSTAND that I do not want to wear the knee pads. She force me to wear and is giving me a option of choosing a knee guard. And now Im looking for a knee guard options that will not restrict my pedalling.

Is it a flesh wound?

Suck it up princess. Flesh wounds are nothing, I rode for a full day at the hill with a gaped arm and then when the races were done I hit up the clinic to receive 12 stitches. Try breaking a bone like a hip, thats easily the worst injury I've had. It haunts me to this very day, in fact this very minute I'm in pain because of it. Flesh wounds hardly faze me anymore.

You don't want to be forced to wear pads? Don't go home showing off your scratches.

Geez, why dont you guys understand....Its my mom who wants me to wear it. And accidents happen, how am I not to get stitches. Anyway come to think of it, if its not a competition, whats wrong wearing knee pads? Its better to reduce the amount of injury as much as possible so It wont affect urself when you are aged, am I correcT?

If you need any less then four stitches, you really don't need stitches. If it's between four and seven stitches super glue will suffice.

And no, I am not kidding, this truly is how I look at flesh wounds.

+1 I always drink a glass of Stan's sealant before riding! Then if I do get cut, the wound seals itself without getting my clothes stained!

Yes, the E.R. uses super glue too to seal small cuts...I do it too. For some reason it also deadens the nerve endings near the cut. Slap some SuperGlue on there and it hurts less. Weird...probably because it's toxifying the body and the body is trying to fight it.:D

Yeah hooligan...I broke my arm off once...I just put it in my Camelbak until I was done riding. (It made a good kickstand when I had to pee too...I just had a hard time holding the drawers and aiming the pee'er at the same time:rolleyes: )

ah, wheelhot! RE knee pads that you can comfortably pedal with - check into volleyball knee pads - they're soft & not too restrictive, but they may tear upon impact since they don't have a hardshell cover. The downhill/mountain board knee pads are heavier, harder, but also not restrictive - they seem to be very sweaty, though. The volleyball pads are probably about $10/pair, while the dh/mt board are about $40/pair. Go to a bike shop & try a pair on, take a spin on a bike, and see how they feel. Now, if it's shin guards she wants you to wear, hit the soccer section of the sporting goods store & get a light, cheap pair - @ $15. The ones with straps are cheaper, but may move around. The ones with a solid, stretchy back will stay put, but will make you sweat. Make your Mom happy. She's bothering you because she loves you!

RE falling down - stop doing that!! My son doesn't complain about his injuries anymore - unless he's really hurt. He complains about injuries to his bike... but then, he doesn't fall down too much; he tends to run into trees full bore. Better to break your helmet than your head.

02-11-07, 07:19 AM
Yup, I was gonna suggest the foamy ones. They'd flex nicely with your joints.

Your Mommy is just worried 'bout you dude...at least she bought you a nice ride. Don't give her flack...just say "okay" and respect her wishes until you're grown up and moved out.

My parents must have been raised on the other side of the tracks, though. I beat myself up all the time and they didn't care. My dad had a bit'o'Knevil in him.

I use 661 veggie knee wraps and their pretty comfy. Fox also make a really good soft pad,not as bulky as the 661. Girlscout uses those and he likes them a lot. Both are fine for lots of pedaling.

If you pick out some nice pink one's it will be easier for you to find a pretty dress to go with them. ;)

Seriously, accidents happen, stitches happen, broken bones happen. All part of the sport. However as long as you live under your parents roof they have to right to want to protect you. After all, they are the ones paying your doctor bills.

Take it easy on the kid!!!! There is nothing wrong with wearing shin guards.

For the OP, Dianese are the best. Roach makes good ones, just make sure you get the open cell stuff. The closed cell guards are hotter then hades.

I don't take nicely with getting told to take English classes when my primary language is English, especially when it's from someone whose native tongue isn't English.

I'm just grouchy because I had to drive 300 frikken miles just to find out my sister had her frikken purse the whole damn time.

I just took a spill this weekend involving a full endo over the bars and a scraped up a knee and some very minor other scrathes. Kneeguard and shinguards would have helped big time, just food for thought. Heal up and enjoy!

A bit of advice - skip the story, and just post the question, and you'll get a lot less grief, wheelhot.

If you had titled your post something like "good kneepads/shin guards?" and just described what you want, think of all the posts above you wouldn't have had to read or react to!:D

i think protection = risk/convenience. your mom probably doesn't care much for your convenience of having to put pads on so to her the amount of protection you wear should equal the amount of risk you're taking, and if she doesn't know exactly what you're doing out there, then she probably thinks the amount of risk is pretty high. you however don't think its that risky, and convenience means more to you, so the amount of protection you think you need is much lower. I ride XC and don't wear any pads either. I've thought about wearing pads every time i'm riding in shorts and a stickerbush grabs my leg, or if im wearing jeans and a stickerbush tries to pull my leg off. I had an endo a couple months ago where i flew above the bike about 3 feet then landed with my ribs on the bars then flipped over the front and landed on my face/chest and my elbow on a rock. i had a bruised rib, torn thumb tendon thing, lots of scrapes, and my elbow was ground like a sausage patty. that day i decided i wanted to wear at least a little protection. still don't though  this season though i might wear some pads for the more aggressive xc, but for the light xc probably not.

I had to move the brake lever on my BMX to the left side, so I could ride with my cast on. I actually rode to my friend's the day I broke it, and he pointed out that a thumb at either end indicates a break. My pinky was actually bigger than my thumb though.

Wheelhot... Honestly, don't worry about having to wear pads.

Just out of curiousity, how old are you? I remember when I was younger I hated wearing pads because it was "uncool". Then, my friend died when he crashed his bike. Obviously your helmet is your most important piece of protection, but like what's been said above - you can never have too much :D

I don't care anymore what other people think, or what it looks like. Depending on what riding I'm doing, I don't get on the bike without it.

Just my .02 :D

I've been real pleased with my sixsixone pads, plus wheelhot don't look at it as a bad thing, now you can go faster and jump off bigger things now that you'll have pads
