Hi there, this is my first post so I hope someone can help me. I've put down a deposit on a really nice Specialized bike but with one problem. It is reduced because there is a reasonably big dent on the seat tube about 15 or so cm above the crank. I.e. near the bottom. Do you guys think this would be a serious problem or should I not worry about it? No photos unfortunately the dent is 1cm and has chipped off all the paint around it.

Well, of course the frame is weaker than it was. No way of telling-even with a picture-if it will drop you one day.Chances are it would fold in stages giving you some warning, but...
No one can tell you "how much" your risk is increased-not even an expert(but he would warn you off it probably). It pretty much boils down to how the little voice in your head.If it is telling you that "it" is going to constantly be worrying you, then.....
Now we can tell you how much to pay-NO MORE THAN THE PRICE OF THE PARTS-and price means the price you would pay on used parts on Ebay. The frame shouldn't enter into your calculations. Dented aluminum frames are VERY TOUGH to sell.
Now I ride on a slightly dented NRS frame, but the dents are very, very small and shallow-more "prints' than dents. I'm also old and don't do real MT riding, so the frame has an easy life.
If it is a great deal-buy it and keep an eye on it.

I was beginning to come to the same conclusion as you. I think it will always in the back of my mind when riding it as to whether the frame will suddenly collapse (i.e. when cornering as speed)! I mean it is quite a decent dent and probably in the worst place on the whole bike! I think I will see if I can get a bit more off the price (it is a Specialized Sequoia, really nice weighs about 1Kg) then maybe strip the components and look to buy a new frame. But that's a lot of hassle so maybe I should just get my deposit back and start saving!
