Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - We seem to be developing quite a community here!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Agreed in volumes!
Maybe we should organize group rides? Too bad I haven't seen anyone else in the group from Nebraska..

Group rides are a nice idea, but for some of us (myself included), ONE is a group ride!!! :)

You can always visit Costa Rica and scare the locals...are indigenous Costa Ricans as diminutive as Guatemalan Indians? I could see how a herd of Clydes on bikes would do that...
It has been a wealth of info for me and I am glad I lurked and then joined in.

i love being a clyde.. straight advice.. no bs.. but still very fun at the same time
What a place to learn--6 weeks ago I thought a Shimano Free Hub was the thing at the bottom of a fishing stick---now I know its the thing at the CENTER of a bunch of sticks.
It is great to be here with my fellow non-diminutives!:D

You want to see true terror? Imagine a herd of us Clydes showing up at a Chinese All You can eat at the end of a double century ride!:D :eek:there is a comedian I saw years ago named George Pidet. A very large man. He did a bit about the first time he went out west and saw a Chinese All-U-Can Eat place.
The owner approached him eventually, "You go NOW! You eet too mutch. You been heer faw aw'er."
Painfully funny.
"You go now, you scare udder custimer". Love that routine.

"You go now, you scare udder custimer". Love that routine.he has a new show out. It is on Comedy Central. (He's been on Broadway for several years playing a woman in the show Hairspray...)
Bump - don't know how I missed this one but definately love to come in and sit for a spell round these parts :) GREAT little community!

I found this website just a couple of days ago and I registered last night. This is my favorite forum on the website because I feel like I fit in here!!! I am 6'2" and 240 lbs. This forum has been very informative for me and I look to post more questions in the coming days and weeks.

Yeah, the fact of the matter is that most bike stuff is engineered for people that weigh in at 170 lbs. or so. This forum is crucial because it allows those of us who weigh more to share information about what equipment works for larger riders.
It's also nice to be able to lend support / inspiration to each other as we struggle to control our weight. There are some real success stories here.

it seems like there are two types of people on this forum: True Clydes, and people who are actively seeking to no longer be a clyde (quitters!).
At 6'5", I will never NOT be a Clyde; it just isn't healthy for me. I'm proud to be a True Clydesdale!

Well, at 170cm, I shouldn't be a clyde, but am, currently around 100kg, should be around 75kg or so, it's a group where I don't mind being able to quit....:D

Hell, at damn near 400 people guess me 100lbs less than I am. Doc says anything under 200 and there'll be nothing to me. Shooting for 230 by August of '08, when I get hitched.

May it be made of the wood from a 100 year old oak.
And may we plant that tree together, tomorrow.

Another new Clyde, here. Between 6'1"-2" and built heavy so I don't think I'll ever get below 200, but I would like to drop a bit from 250!

Im glad we have our small place on here as well. I have never had the "cyclist" body. When i was 15 i was 6 foot and 200lbs. All muscle then and all state football player. I left the sight for a long time because i felt left out. Thanks a bunch for the spot on here. Bikes have always been a passion for me.

Over 50, 5-11 262lbs here. Awaiting delivery on my Trek Pilot 1.2....didn't come in today :( hopefully tomorrow. My ultimate goal is to drop 50lbs. My immediate goal is to just get active and enjoy riding again.

This is a really great forum. I have gotten so much help on here it isn't even funny. From techinical help on an older bike to buying a new one. Plus the spinner forum really helps motivate me to get out there.
The road forum is great, but over time I come here.
I am curious if anyone currently lives in Minneapolis? I know a couple of members used to.

I dropped 10 lbs in the last couple weeks. I'm now 6'3", 220 lbs, down from 250 a few years ago. If I don't start lifting again, I think I can hit 200 lbs this summer.
Seems like I always gain at least 20 lbs in the winter so I'm probably going to be a seasonal clyde no matter what.
This place is full of info that I found no other place. Most of the cycling world is much smaller than us and so it is difficult for us to get equipment and clothing. Since coming here I have expanded my cycling horizons. If there is ever a Clydes rally I am so there!:D
It's more or less what I was hoping for when the Clyde forum first opened! Cool!:D
+1 here. great group cuz it addresses concerns that many cant understand.
Im 5' 10" 250 at the moment was well over 300 a few years ago. I have one of those Roman LegionType builds.
Im built like a Dumpster with ears even at 220 lb I look the same, more than Likley always a clyde! Hell I was a clyde when in HS and the military. I played hockey and footbal in HS at 220 LB . and doing military stuff a bit heavier.
CLYDES ARE COOL!!!

BTW Tom Im riding in the stillwater NY Tour de cure on june 10 (pedaling patriots team) 50 mile event!

I've ridden with folks I've met through both Bike Forums and the Fat Cyclist website forums. It's a good time - I'm riding 30 miles to Philadelphia and back with a Bike Forum poster tomorrow.
Anyone in the Philadelphia suburbs, private message me and perhaps we can ride together.

I am 6' and 250#. I usually hang out in the Roadie forum, but never quite seem to fit in there with all the twig people. I am an OCP roadie wannabe at heart though! I honestly believe that I will be a life-long clyde as well due to build.
I feel a kinship here while reading this forum. There are tons of motivational stories here, and better yet - no RyanF threads!
Yeah, the fact of the matter is that most bike stuff is engineered for people that weigh in at 170 lbs. or so.
I should have started out riding two bikes at the same time then. Or just gone solo on a tandem.
I agree with the sentiment that I will always be in this lovely group. If my weight ever drops below 200, it won't be for long, or it will be permanent, if you know what I mean.

Even if you drop below and stay below, you will be a "Clyde Emeritus", and I give out certificates for that, by the way.....
It's a lifetime membership in Clyde's after all, because if you hit Emeritus Status, you can still serve as motivation and inspiration that it can be done!;)

Same here...I gain 15-20 lbs during winter. I'm 6' 0" tall and weigh in around 220. However most people guess me at 185-190lbs....I guess I carry my weight well! :D I come from BIG southern stock...BBQ's and sweet tea, so I'll never be under 200. :p No Carbon bikes for me.:o
