I found a good touring book in the library the other day. It is called "Adventure Cycle-Touring Handbook" by Stephen Lord. It is a pretty comprehensive guide to touring that is broken up it 3 parts:"Practical Information" ie planning, bikes, equipment; "Trans Continental Route Outlines" brief outlines of different areas of the world written by cyclists that have been there; and "Tales from the Saddle" condensed journals of 10 different trips.

It is a brand new book so it is pretty up to date on equipment, bikes and geo-politics. Its worth a look for seasoned and first timers.

+1. definitely a good book. but dang if it didn't cost me some serious scrilla! convinced me t build up a rohloff speed hub bike. bastard!:) :eek: :) :D ;)

Yeah! I heard good things about the book too, so I got it imported to Australia. So far it has helped HEAPS for my June trip.

Good book with some good stories. Some will make you bust out laughing.

I spied the book at the local bookstore, casually opened it and saw a picture of my friend Paul Woloshansky - so I had to buy it.

Its the kind of book you can just pick up and browse, look at various sections and dream. Then read the travel stories in the back part, and wonder "Am I tough enough?". Its a good antidote to all the articles about touring the wine country of France in the Sunday supplements.
