Considering upgrading my rear wheel on my Kula DELUXE hardtail. I have a Diore 525 hub with Sun DS1 rim on the back. These came standard on the bike. Most likely heavy. (I am running Panaracer Fire XC tires) My front wheel is a new XT hub with Mavic 717.Seems like a nice quality piece).
Do you feel the handling difference between higher end wheels readily? Or is it just the highly experienced expert that can appreciate it? How much weight might I lose if I bought a high end wheel like a DT SWiss, or other with a fancypants hub and then also went for an XT or so cog?
The rest of the bike is upgraded end to end with top gear .

The Sun rim is relatively light..I think it's close in weight to the XC717 (they're both around 400g). Both the Deore and XT hubs are relatively heavy in the hub world. And the spokes make a big difference in the weight too.

Lightweight wheels do make a noticeable difference. The bike feels lighter, more nimble and accelerates more quickly.
