General Cycling Discussion - 2 confessions

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Yup, I have two. One, I am not a cyclist, and Two, I don't have a bike..................NOT!!!!!! Just Kidding.
One: I love Cream Soda, especially IBC Cream Soda
Two: I love Jazz, Glenn Miller St. Louis St Blues,Duke Ellington Stompy Jones....Stuff like that. All this contemporary stuff like Metallica,Creed,N'sync,Backstreet Boys.......You guys know what I am talking about, I can't stand it, it isn't music to me.
You have more company in your musical taste than you might think, but a lot of it's in Europe and Japan, where American music has always been far more appreciated than at home.

I am not sure Pete, I am not sure. I like hangin' out with guys like the ones here at the forums rather than with my "peer" group. I actually don't really get along with people in my "peer" group.I have more in common with th 38+ yr olds in the local bike club than I do with a bunch of high school guys.

Fubar, your going to hate me for this... but i must confess... I run a *nsync website... yes, you heard that right! My niece kylei (she is two years old) is a n'sync (however you spell it) fan... she also loves computers, so we made a website for her... nsyncemail.com
For the reccord, I hate boy bands! Cant stand them, cant wait till there gone, pop music? BLAH! Too much of todays music is produced and fake, it makes me sick. Im a 80's fan for life, duran duran, david bowie, qween, alphaville, cutting crew, dead or alive, howard jones etc...
P.S. Anyone want a you@nsyncemail.com email addy? There free ;)
UGH!!!!! A lot of bands don't even write their own music these days, they are just money makers

if thats what you want ;) haha, its more then likely taken already, i think i have ~6700 people using the nsyncemail addresses.
I had some 13yr old girl email me and offer $50 to purchase the address justin@nsyncemail.com, but somebody else took it, i told her to email that person and see if they would sell it, kinda funny.
STEELY DAN!
I know, you either love 'em or you hate 'em. I love 'em.
hey fubar...IBC cream soda rocks. but if you really want a good cream soda, you should try Jones Cola Company Cream Soda. i had my first bottle today, and it totally kicked IBC's a$$. check out the company here: http://www.jonessoda.com. i don't know if you have ever heard of it before. anyway, it rocks.
and joe--just for kicks, i think that it would be kinda funny to have an ...@nsyncemail.com address to harass my friends with, with my parents permission, of course. gee whiz, the internet is a wonderful thing.

I agree with that! What's wrong with some real rock 'n' roll! Granted, there's a bit of good music around at the moment, but I'm sorry to say that not much of it's coming out of the US. There's Matchbox 20, I'll pay that one, I thought "Mad Season" was one of the best albums I've ever heard, but apart from that it's a shot bird I'm afraid. :(

^5 fubar!
Some of my faves from the 30s and 40s are Benny Goodman's 12-minute version of "Sing, Sing, Sing" at Carnegie Hall, Artie Shaw's "Traffic Jam," and Glenn Miller's take on "Song of the Volga Boatmen," surprisingly jazzy for a Sweet Band.
'Course, having been in high school and college in the 60s means also that I listen to Jimi, John Mayall, Paul Butterfield, Cream, Ten Years After, etc. It was a hoot when I went to see High Fidelity and could recognize the music under John Cusack's opening voice-over:"Hey, that's "You're Gonna Miss Me," by The Thirteenth Floor Elevator; I haven't heard that since the summer of '66!"
Sorry, can't say I care for cream soda, though!
I cut my teeth on all of the 60's and 70's rock-n-roll from Allman Bro's to Zappa (A to Z) and I also love the older unplugged sounds as well... Peter, Paul & Mary... Everly Bro's... Leo Kotke... James Taylor... etc.
I even like good (real) country... Merle... Duane Eddy... Roy... Chet... Ricky Scaggs... etc.
I'm not sure where Bela Fleck and the Flecktones fit in but they are high up on my list as well.
But the best music ever to come forth on this planet both from a talent and sound engineer perspective, BARR- NONE is...
Phil Keaggy!
but then again my favorite drink's are home made fruit smoothies and southern iced tea.

Got that one dude, love it.
I think everyone here realizes that "today's music", and I use the term loosely, has nothing to do with music. It's all about selling products, band parephenalia (sp??), and sex. Er... Joe, can I use that word here? ;)
When you see these bands or groups or Brittney or anyone else, they are selling their "looks". These people are half-dressed and tattooed. This is what young people want. They want to look like and be like these "idols'.
The Pepsi commercial with Brittany is a good example. What is she selling?? Surely not Pepsi!!
I haven't heard much GOOD music for over a decade!!

Bread pudding is good, too. One of the few edible items in the university cafeteria (back in the colonial days when I was at KU) was bread pudding. I guess it's hard to mess up....
And I like tapioca pudding. I don't know why it's so maligned; it can be really tasty.

i just had to reply to this post. I applaud you, Fubar, for listening to something different and older than yourself. For most young people music isn't about music but more about fitting into a group. In high school what you listen to is a big part of who you are.
I dig jazz also and I'm lucky that there is a station that broadcasts jazz and classical right in Philadelphia. However, my favorite music seams to be rock&roll. Anyway, I wouldn't expect to hear any good music on commercial radio stations. They have to play music that appeals to a mass of people to sell advertising. When I listen to the radio I listen to college and public radio stations and while i don't care for some of the stuff they play I've found alot that i do like.
For those of you that claim no good music is being made today. You're just wrong. it's just that it doesn't get much air time. This is a pet peeve of mine. The airwaves that radio stations broadcast on are owned by all of us, but are wasted by playing the same mediocre songs over and over again. Sorry, this is turning into a rant. Well, here's some Rock&Roll bands Ya'll might want to check out.
Pixies (now defunct but the leader, Frank Black continues on)
Sleater-Kinney
Francis Dunnery
Tanya Donnelly (also from Belly, Throwing Muses, The Breeders)
Moxy Fruvous
G. Love and Special Sauce
As I read this, someone's singing "HiDeHo" on TV. Classic BS&T, no?
On the flip side, I cannot stand blue grass....shivers
Well, I think there's store-bought-bread bluegrass, and then there's the real thing, and there's quite a difference. But I'm out of my depth, or element, since my taste is almost all classical.

What kind of classical? Mozart? Bach? Vivaldi? Chopin?
