My girlfriend is getting a tribike and we are wondering about fit. Most places we talk to seem to want to put her in to a medium. She has a small road bike (Orbea Orca) and it seems to fit her well.

When considering a tri bike versus a road bike what are some of the consirns? She will mostly me doing long distance and will do an Ironman this year as well. It there a differance in fiting for short tri's and long ones? I would assume so but I am not sure what...maybe a flatter position? Would this be a larger frame to acheave this?

There seems to be a lot on the net about reg bike fit but not much on tri fit.....we have been to local bike shops and most seem to be guessing...I can guess.....so help me guess....

She is seriously looking at the Kuota Kalibur...BB to top of seat on her Orca is 69.5 cm....if you need other measurments I would be happy to provide...

Don't bother with a local bike shop unless they move a lot of triathlon or tt bikes. Otherwise, you're right - they're guessing at best. At worst, they're trying to move something out the door that's taking up showroom space, rather than sell something that fits.

Where are you located? If she's serious enough to be considering a big chunk of change on a bike (Kalibur!) then it might be worth a road trip to an LBS that does a lot of triathlon business. Besides the issue of getting on the right size frame, fitting the bike to the customer (i.e. adjustments, etc) is much different on a tri bike than a conventional road bike.
