SF Bicyclist Shot In Head Dies Of Wounds

POSTED: 2:45 pm PST February 12, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO -- A 31-year-old woman shot in the head while riding her bicycle died after being hospitalized for nearly two weeks.

Police said they could not explain the Jan. 31 shooting of Jennifer "Jenna" Merritt near her apartment in the city's Ingleside Heights neighborhood.

She was found at an intersection last month shot once in the arm and once in the temple.

Merritt worked as a caretaker for two elderly men who lived near her home and was likely on an errand for them when she was shot, police said.

She was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where she died Sunday afternoon, according to the San Francisco medical examiner's office.

What are peoples ideas on the ghost bike, the memorial biek palced atthe scene of the crime to remember the fallen.

I have perosnally never heard of this infraction on the right of passadge of a bike in traffic. The SanFransico community must stand taller then ever to avoid further injury.

RIP Jenna

I think they're poignant memorials, and I support them. I hope motorists at least wonder about them, but I have no idea. Here's Portland's most recent one for Nick, who died a week and a half ago.

I hope there's one going up for Jenna.
