Fifty Plus (50+) - Yahoo! Tour of California kicks off this Sunday

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

with the Prologue in San Francisco.
And yours truly will be a volunteer course marshall... I am excited.
Anyone going (or at least watching it on Vehhhh -sis)?

I'd better go check the Vs. schedule. I'll definitely be watching. Are they doing stage by stage coverage or weekly summaries or what?

With all the drug allegations flying around last year, I swore I wouldn't watch any more pro cycling, but of course, I'll be tuning in.

It looks like Vs. will be showing highlights daily... this Sunday they're running from 5-7PM (PST? EST?) but I'd swear the TT starts at 1PM. The rest of the schedule looks like they're 1 hour each until NEXT Sunday which is another 3 hour segment... Man, Vs must have about the worst web site ever.

Good selection of teams. I hope they'll post a roster soon. I don't really feel like searching each team's website to see who they are sending. I did look at a few. Disco had no info. CSC is sending a strong team. DZ, Bobby J, Jens etc. Thor Hushov will be there for Credit Agricole.
You mean it's not on OLN this year? What the heck is Vs? I've never heard of it.

The channel formerly know as Outdoor Network, or Outdoor Life, or Outdoor Life Network, or something...

Gee, I'm sorry. I thought that link did include the rosters... guess i didn't dig deeply enough
I got the rosters with my Volunteer packet, I just *assumed* they have that stuff on their site, too.
Hm.

I'm gonna be there! And on my bike, no less. With a "tour" group which will ride portions of the race course before the peloton roars through. My guess is that the crowds will already be gathering when we come through so this ought to be pretty exciting. It's a 4 day ride and I will have daily options of going anywhere from 30 to 70 miles.
I have no doubt I will be the oldest guy in this bunch. I'll try to carry the flag for us 50+ ers.

I'll be at the finish in Sacramento. I'll be meeting up with a couple of my bike friends from here (Quincy), too.

Carry that flag, Stevie47, carry it proudly and high.
Sadly there will be no peloton that day... it is a Time Trial.
That's exciting enough but I'm a little sorry not to see a peloton in action.
I don't know where I'll be, so I can't say "keep an eye out for me".
Still, you're going to have to come through there pretty early I imagine before they close it off... I probably won't be on the course yet.

"OLN" turned in "Versus." Different name, same programing except for also being the exclusive network of NHL hockey - kinda hard to call pro hoickey played exclusively in indoor arenas an "otdoor" sport.
It still features more bull riding than human being could possibly want to watch, IMHO.

Thanks, I'm glad it's not some new channel that I can't get. Like someone said above ^, I haven't watched it since the TDF last year.
I wonder how many of the bull riding crowd is happy to see bicycle racing on their bull riding channel? :D

...and how about Phil Liggett doing the on-air promos for Bull Riding during the TDF??? Hilarious!

You California guys, take a day or two off next week and go see some of the race. You'll love it. I'm sure going to do that in April when the Tour de Georgia happens.
Best views are along steep sections of climbs. Best access to racers is at stage starts. Come early and hang around and you'll get plenty of chances to meet the riders and team staff. Bring a kid if you want to create a bicycling fanatic.
Cool, I'll need to root for Colavita/Sutter Home. One of the guys from my club back in Maine rides for them now.

Last year many of our club members road out to see the steppest climb of stage 6 ( Balcom Canyon)
Most of us had to resort to getting off our bikes and walking up this wall. When the racers finally came through they were amazingly fast, like it was just a little bump in the road. I'll be there again this year,
I can hardly wait.
