Mountain Biking - Will Bar ends work with Lock-On grips?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Will Bar ends work with Lock-On grips? I have never had either item. Was looking at the Lizard skins Lock-on grips and the Singletrack Solutions bar ends.

Yes, they will work.

You just move the grip over.

Extra note: you can get shorter lock-ons made to be used with grip shifters, if you need the extra clamping space.

I use the Ruffians & ST lites combo, no problem.

only if you are using a barend that acts as the lockjaw (such as the cane creek ergo control 2's)

plus you still need to use the other lock...

How do you propose that bar ends will clamp the grips to the handlebar?

If the bar end is on there the grip won't slip off. If your grip moves on your bar then you need to learn how to install grips. If you need to buy a product to keep your grips from moving you are an idiot. I've been installing grips for 25+ years and have yet needed anything but a handlebar and a grip to accomplish the task.

No worries. Sometimes Kentucky rednecks just have to try and live up to the stereotype.

In this instance, it was a smashing success!

i think in this case rico meant bar end caps. some are compatible with lock-ons.

Probably, but you would think that RICO would read that the original post, where he specifically stated what bar ends he was going to run.

Rico, odi's need to have both clamps on them for them to work properly, not to mention it would be dangerous if running them with one clamp only on each grip. The flex from each grip will eventually cause the grip to come off of the other clamp.

You're just as confused as RICO.

Read the entire thread again and maybe, just maybe, you'll get it.

If he meant bar end caps (which still wouldn't eliminate the need for the inboard lock-on clamp) he would have/should have said so (typed so). His posts indicate that he's completely unfamiliar with lock-ons and once again just spewing nonsense based upon an amazing lack of experience).

hey man, just giving him the benefit of the doubt.

In case your a little confused fm all the different advice.

If you have lock on grips, you have 2 type choices of bar ends :

1. Normal clamp straight to the bar - as in the picture shown in this thread - if you use these bar ends you DEFINITELY have to lock both ends of the grip to the bar & leave enough on the end to have all of the bar clamped to the bar.

2. You can also get bar ends that are designed to be compatibale with lock on grips and actually fit on the end of the grip and clamp it in place - in this instanse you lock the inside end of the grip as normal and the bar locks the outside end of the grip - I have these - they work great and save a little space.

To be honest what ever ones you get - it is obvious once you have them in your hands..

If you're going to apply that standard to this forum you better get to work on the hundreds of other threads wherein the discussions don't relate to the main topic.

Discussion often diverge from the original topic. That's why they're called discussions.

I hope they leave you alone. I have started scanning the threads looking for your replies. I really enjoy them.

????????????????

You posted in this thread last night.

All heck didn't break loose. Someone didn't like the thread and went crying to a confused 16 year old moderator and he went on a mad, random, ineffectual censor spree.

I know I did, that when I got home from where I was, and I really didn't read the thread in full until just now.

Idiot here.

There have been many threads about the proper way to install regular, non-lock on grips, and they all involve hairspray, Windex, WD-40, air compressors, or even paint and fire. Care to share your secret?

I just checked it. The reason is that it was in response to another post that was a response to another post that was completely unnecessary. Once the other post was deleted yours would have just seen like a random post responding to nothing. There was nothing wrong with your post, it was the post it was responding to.

A lot of the posts that were deleted were not because that particular post was a problem. They were deleted because of a couple of unnecessary posts that threw the whole topic out to left field. Once the original posts were deleted the other posts were useless.

Hope this clears it up a little. :D

Were the posts more into left field than the norm? I didn't see the last of this thread but I remember Junkyard mentioning how much he loves this forum during the winter. Then a bunch of us agreed and started reminiscing.

Yes, and they actually involved a lot of name calling which is a direct violation to the rules. Once the name calling started it just snowballed and the responses were to them more than the actual topic. hi565 had two choices. He could have either deleted the entire thread which would have been much easier, or he could have taken the time to do a clean up to it.

So I missed some interesting posts? Is there a way to email subscribe to certain users? I tried using that 'Buddy List' but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Damn, and this one happened during the day, too. I usually miss the stuff that happens from 9pm PST onwards. My fault for getting caught up in my work today.

That requires buying a product, which is not necessary with RICO's method.

The mod must have been newly crowned and wanted to flex some muscle.

I have no problem with LowCel and Mr.Smashy because they know and understand the dynamics here. They've even shown themselves to be human, too. What happened to this thread was just plain silly.

I don't think you really missed much, Santiago . . . unless things really spun off after I went back to work. A couple of mine got deleted in the melee of deleting related posts to the off-topic topic, but they were just some of my usual smart-a** wisecracks. It's funny, though, because the whole aftermath has created more traffic on this thread than the original incident. Ahh well . . . .

I am glad the moderators are finally starting to step in. this place got way out of hand and lost a LOT of members who are bike shop owners , employees, mechanics or just plain old "been there fixed that for 10 plus years" now folks. let the flames be thrown but I speak the truth
I have a set of Canecreek Ergobars I that I used as the outside lock on my ODI lockons. I have now gone to the Ergon( the ones that look like wings but are great at helping hand pain and numbness on all day rides) locking grips but still use the ergo bars as the outside lock with no problem
