For english I need to compare/contrast two characters in Great Expectations, with also the use of quotes. The two I have considered now are: Joe and Jaggers, and Biddy and Estella.
Joe/Jaggers= two types of guardians, joe wants to be..Jaggers has to be...Joe is always there..Jaggers is temporary.
Biddy/Estella=both meaningful women in Pips life. one is cruel, one is kind, ect.

Does anyone have any other suggestions with other characters or can help me further ideas on the previous two? Thanks.

I think the two you have picked are really good. Other Foo'ers?

"Great Expectations," huh? Dickens, right? I read it in HS something like 35 years ago. As far as I can remember, some kid named "Pip" finds out that money doesn't buy class. I can't even remember the names of the other characters. How about a compare-and-contrast of Pip and the narrator in "All Quiet on the Western Front"? Or between the nasty old lady with whom Pip has to spend inordinate amounts of time on the one hand and the protagonist in "Ruby Fruit Jungle" on the other?

Just a thought. Hey, you'd at least get points for originality.

I had to read all quiet on the western front in history, and that book put me to sleep. This year for histoy I am reading Night, and that book is much more interesting.

Not a Foo'er but I think you should choose Pip and any one of the other main characters because you will have the most material to work from. That will make the writing easier. Choosing anybody else just thins out the material you can use. Although, the thinner material lets you develop assumtions about the lesser characters and they can't really be refuted. It is all about interpretation as long as you are reasonable. A paper interpreting Mrs Havisham as the defeated devil with a broken heart and Herbert as Gabriel with his aspirations is going to get high eyebrows but not high grades. Be reasonable and your interpretation will be respected. Well, atleast it will be if your English teacher is reasonable too.

How does one become a Foo'er? Is there a beating involved like getting jumped into a gang? What is a Foo exactly? Is it like the guys by the AmPm greeting themselves with, "Sup Foo" and answered with a head tilt, a "Sup" and all sorts of hand shaking, slapping, and fist bumping?

As near as I can tell, you just became one. Lord knows, nobody sent me an application form and nobody interviewed me (although they probably now wish they had.)

Basically, just keep visiting and posting, have a sense of humor and a willingness to follow the sometimes-random flow of the threads, and have a good time. Just remember that pretty much everyone's bark is far worse than their bite, and that the vast majority of the Foo denizens are really fine people - at least in cyberspace. As you'll soon pick up, a fair number of Foosters have grown pretty close -- although they usually steer clear of me for some reason. Hmmm, maybe it's my breath . . . .

Someday..Foo won't be connected as it once was with the people that are on now. But at least even 50 years from now, we will remember eachother.

Sort of, but it's more of a nod, a point, and a "How YOU doin?"

Oh, and if you want an application, send me a PM and I'll give you the paypal address for the $50 application fee.
