Foo - What in the Heck is a "Merton"?

I know I am going to regret posting this but I had to ask!;)

MERTON is the coolest member ever!! Yeah..that's it....he's the coolest dude ever!!

Merton is this guy who would come off with these crazy off the wall threads. He always felt the LBS was out to rip him off, his room mates were out to rip him off and school was out to rip him off.

So he would think of these crazy things and ask for help. Like how to sound proof your room with sand (in the walls). Or he would post his drawings of toilets and ask us to buy them so he can pay for school. Or he would make some wild crazy art project and ask us what we think (I swear he was trying to communicate to other non earthly beings with that thing) and then the best of all, he would be so upset about paying the LBS and somehow they always messed up him with bad parts, wrong parts or gave him attitude.

And for some reason, he never used capitals.

His favorite word to use was "crap" and he always accused me of harrassing him when I teased him too much on his threads even though he talked to me via PM a lot and we would have pleasant conversations.

I miss my merton.

Merton is a Foo cultural meme. I'm begining to doubt he ever even existed and that any instances I remember of interacting with him were imagined in order to preserve the reality my mind has generated around him.

Hmmmm! The lack of capitlaization and the oddball postings of inventions lead me to believe I know who this troll is. I just did not know he was into the Bicycle boards. In the world of firearms boards he was known as "Gunkid". His claim to fame was a lack of capitalization and the invention of the "mobile armored wheelbarrow".

Apparently the Internet as well as the world seems to be a mighty small place. I am pretty sure it is him from what you have told me. He is fairly infamous and quite prolific.

According to the powers that be, MERTON asked that he be removed from the forums so he could concentrate on his studies at, I think, UTD. Along with that, apparently he asked that all of his posts and threads he started be stricken from the records.

Very mysterious and frustrating for those of us who really did think he added a certain flavor only he could provide to the forums.

It's like he never existed. It's like a koan we've all got to wrestle with. If a MERTON posts, but the posts are not there, did he really post?
