Their video only looks like the riders are going downhill. No demonstrations of level riding.

Too much friction with a ski. Not enough floation improvment with the rear track or the short ski. Flexing rubber treads and spinning more wheels is a lot more work. Just more work and the inability to cross the road.

I've always pondered something that runs on conventional wheels but floats up in deep snow. Like maybe extending the fork legs and have skiis mounted at the ends on either side of the wheel. Or a snowboard-shaped thing with a notch in the middle for the bottom 1/8 of the tire to contact the ground through.

IMHO, the best option I've seen for this sort of thing is this:

I have been lusting over the Ti Iditabike racer for a while! Did you notice that the front and back wheel are identical, complete with another casette and freehub? That's good design. It looks like Ti racks too.
That bike probalby weighs less than my steel snow bike, even with the huge wheels and racks on it.
They still don't float over deep soft snow. But they handle much better. If the snow is deep it's actually less work to plow throught with a narrow tire. But the wide tire helps a lot of other things. If there is a hard crust the wide tire can keep you up on top longer. A very light bike and rider helps too.
