Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Let's see some Winter Single Speeds and Fixies

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I kina of had a wet day dream on the snow covered walk to class today about a 29er fixie with some big ole 2.25" studded tires, which means you all need to post photos of your winter fixies and single speeds.

I don't have any pics, but when I ride in Montana I use the same 700c armadillos I use everywhere else. Never had any problems.
here's my winter bike. still need to:
tape bars
find some bigger tyres with tread
make the gearing a bit easier
get a brake

and watch out for the fenders, snow will clog them and bring you to a stop

That's a great picture with the tow truck in the background.
I've done alright with the snow and fenders, but you're right pedex. I would do much better with a mountain bike that had mudguards and studded tires. Please excuse the crappy quality of the picture.

A mountain bike frame with track ends? What kind is it?
its a monocog from redline, some parts had to be replaced cause I got broadsided by a car when riding it a few years ago, so I turned it into my snow bike-----I really hate riding it to be honest, I much prefer my trackbike

dc had a real storm recently, for us i mean... its been 3 days straight of unplowable mucha nd ice on nearly every street, and slippy sliding around even with cross tires. that picture is from awhile ago.

What's the reflective set up you have on your knuckles and wrists, Robbykills? It looks pretty effective (as it would need to be riding that thing at night :-)

stock redline hubs
any old hub will do really, just as long as it fits
and lower gearing, thats got a 44/16 and its a bit much when the snow is deep
dont know of any stock wheels off the top of my head for mtb SS that dont cost a fortune, but building one up wouldnt be too bad
sun ryhnolite's laced to almost anything would work

I'm noticing an unusually high percentage of moustache handlebars on these winter fixies. Is there an advantage to these bars in riding in the snow (xtra width?), is it coincidence, or are they being used to get rid of old/unused parts for a beater bike?

My bike came with moustache bars, but I prefer drops most of the time. The width of the bars do seem to give me a little more stability and leverage.

sweet...heh, 44x16 is higher than what i run on my day-to-day bike (43x16). that may change on the flat land of columbus, though.
i'm looking at a fixed mtb because i've been riding the same track bike every time it's snowed and i like the feel of a fixed gear on the slick spots, it feels like i have more control and am better connected to the bike and what's happening as i ride.
rhynolite, surly hub probably. thanks. guess i'll be seeing you around, eh?
ya man, I'll be around, once summer comes im alot more sociable
right now with this weather, its do my job and try to hibernate the rest of the time, this 0-10 degree temps crap is wearing me out, I got off work yesterday and ate 2 foot long subs from subway and it felt like a snack, its all I can do just to keep on keepin on when its like this--------busy as hell slinging packages and brutal cold= tough days

I believe the moustache (bars) keeps freezing snot from melting into your mouth and onto your chin
moustache is good into the winter

I have a pair of Nokian Hakkapelitta 106W, 700x47C, but I'd really like something even wider, something like you mentioned, 2+" big honking 29ers STUDDED. Could anyone advise?
Hey it counts. Look, snow. Though those bald, slick tires make me do a terrified cringe every time I have to plow through a couple inches of ice and slush on a street.
My Surly makes for a much better winter bike but it has (*gasp*) derailleurs.
