I love Trinidad. I've been there a few times. The population is a mix of Hindu and Caribbean, and the food is the best the world has ever seen. I mean crazy good food. Better than the food in Italy, good food.

Why do you get to go there? Where do you work? Are they hiring new people to go on vacations??

Work once sent me to Grande Prairie (in Canada.) Look it up some time. Practically on Santa's doorstep.

I guess you could say we have polar opposite work travel assignments. :D Closest I've gotten to the tropics for work was Tampa.

One of our favorite gags when bar-hopping in Trinidad was to tell some young cowboy or college kid about Doc Biber and his practice - about the time they spotted some gal they were interested in. :lol:

That's nothing. My work is sending me to Saskatchewan ... small town Saskatchewan ... in the middle of winter ... when its -25 degrees Celcius ... in a small crappy motel ... hmmmmm ... maybe it's not such a sweet deal after all ... Trade ya :(

I've been to trinidad twice. It's actually the only place I've been outside the US. It's pretty cool.

How do you like landing and taking off at the airport? Though maybe it's different now, about 25 years ago, taking off was a nailbiting experience as it appeared that the plane would fly into the mountains nearby! In other words, a rather rapid ascent was necessary! :eek:

The last time I was there it still felt like taking off out of a cave.
The first time I was there was in the 1978. There was live stock in the terminal, and security consisted of a white sign, with an icon of a gun and a knife inside of a red circle, with a slash through it. When we transfered to the shuttle to go on to Tobago, I was unimpressed by the age of the plane, and had no idea how reassuring seeing a Rolls Royce logo on the engine cowling would be.

Nope it's the island of Trinidad. The people I'm staying with are close family friends, but they don't like that I never married and did threaten to arrange a marriage for me. So I guess it balances out.

Carnival is in 5 days and I don't think I'll make it down that soon. :(

I was only in Trinidad for a night while in transit to Tobago. I stayed at a bed and breakfast which was up in the hills by some monastery (I forget the name). It was very secluded and a great place to rest up before I headed for Tobago.

I spent a week in Tobago on a Scuba Diving liveaboard trip. Tobago is awesome. The night I got there before the dive boat left was "Tobago Fest." They had a parade that night which consisted of hundreds of steel drummers and big 40ft flatbed trucks with huge speakers where they blasted reggae music. Everyone was sitting around drinking beers on the sides of the road watching the parade go by. Tobago is a very laid back place, they even have a word for just kicking back and drinking a beer, "Liming." Tobago is like how the Caribbean was before all the American and European resorts took over. The chef on the dive boat was from Trinidad and boy could she cook! One night she cooked curried goat. One of the passengers on the boat requested it and the next day a dude in a little motor raft showed up with the goat meat. I was a little apprehensive, but it was good, basically tasted like lamb, but much bonier.

You should take a couple days and go over there. They have flight from the POS airport every 1/2 hour or so and I think I paid like $55US round trip. The flight was like 30 minutes or so.

I remember liming! And steel drums are sweet! Man, I miss Trinidad. I want some some doubles and seamoss now!
