General Cycling Discussion - Whats my cadence?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was able to ride a really sweet track bike (setup for the street) today at the LBS. The bike did have a computer on it, but the comp didnt measure the cadence, only the speed.
After my ride, i noticed my top speed at 32mph, is there any way to find out what my cadence was at that speed? The drive train was a 49x15 combo.
Also, i usualy ride with a 90 - 95 cadence, what would my speed be at that cadence? I forgot to look at the comp, I was having too much fun on the bike :)
Lastly, whats the formula for figuring this out? Thanks all!

I'm no math wiz, but I found this page that might help you Joe.

Here's another good link. There's a "cadence from speed" calculator on it.

Nice! Thanks for the links!
It looks like I spin out on flat ground at 124rpm, and with that gearing, i could hold 24mph with a cadence of 93 :)

Hi Joe, did you start bouncing at that rpm?
Supposedly around 125/130 rpm the body's internal resonance (is that the correct terminology?) will start bouncing around. This is the same as that old tv footage of that suspension bridge in high winds that buckled and weaved with people and cars on it.
I, for some strange reason, am fascinated by cadence and until my last birthday- June- used an old computer without the speed sensor- just time and cadence features. I had used this comp. for around 7/8 years without a speed function.
To me my cadence was the best indicator of my wellbeing on a particular ride/day.

Yeah, actualy i did start to bounce around at that speed, do you have any more information on the body's internal resonance by chance?
Is it good or, er, b-a-a-d, to have your internal resonance bounce around? I remember what happened to that suspension bridge!

Joe, the book that gave me that info was written by Richard Ballantyne, it was one of the first cycling books I read and even now I occasionally borrow it from my local library as it is still relevant.
The name escapes me but each chapter is prefaced with a cartoon and I love the chapter on bike setup - the cartoon is of 2 guys laughing at this bike with a tiny seat tube and an extremely long top tube- behind the guys is a gorilla! in cycling clothes and he looks mad.':)'
Anyone think of the title?

So what's wrong with a cycling gorilla?
