Hello

My Claud Butler Stone River got nicked recently (ingenieous theif(s) unscrewed the brackets of a drainpipe my bike was chained to and slid the bike of), though it was not a really specialized bike i got fond of it and was sorely tempted to get the same.

I have instead got a list of four bikes that fit my budget, i would like to hear your thoughts on them and maybe some more reccomendations, i ride mainly road to work, occasionaly going off road to work, and once a while x-country trails.

Thanks in advance.

Trek 4900 or 4500 (4900 only if i can push my budget).
Claude Butler Cape Wrath
Kona Blast.

PS I would prefer a bike thet does not require me to tinker with alot, as i am bound my space/time and girlfriend requiring attention constraints.

I like the 4500 because of the black paint job, but if you're looking for a slightly lighter one, the 4900 will have it. They both share the same frame, so the difference is in the components.

Cheers Chi,

The 4900 is henceforth eleimated, i don't think my riding justifys me spending that extra for components if im not going to utilise them as much as they need to to get the benefit.

I had a 4500 and regardless of the cost the frame is great. Super stiff and strong. I ended upgrading the whole bike to LX and XT. The components that Trek gives are ok for a once a week rider but if you are going to go out every day and do anything serious do the upgrade.
