Hi all,

Sheldon Brown has a 1973 frame listed at 26.8, but I have an older frame that's just smaller than this. Does anyone know if the earlier size is 26.6 or something else?

Thanks

The problem is just age, but level of bicycle. Like most manufacturers, size produced a wide range of models. So seatpost sizes can vary quite a bit. Ensure the slot is not pinched or enlarged, then measure it with calipers or take it to your LBS. If this is not practical, do you know what the tubeset is?

Zeus profesional; I was told it was Reynolds 'A' tubing, although there's just a Reynolds sticker on the frame. I'll ask them to measure at the LBS, thanks.

Don't know what you mean by Reynolds A tubing. I assume 531. Zeus used French diameter tubing. So it should be 26.4 or 26.6mm.

No, the "A" was an older straight-guage tubing by Reynolds, and it seems to have been completely eclipsed by 531 EXCEPT for some Spanish bikes (like Zeus) and the occasional Australian. It's often compared with Accles & Pollack tubing from the same early era. I'd guess that being straight guage it would use a smaller seat pin, so maybe 26.4 is right...having the tube measured is your best bet.

26.2 for future reference, and it actually says "Reynolds tubing, 'A' quality". Here's a picture of the decal. Thanks all!

Interesting, I've only seen one decal for "A" tubing before and it looked completely different from this, more like one of the very basic 531 decals except it said Reynolds with a big capital A and not at an angle like this one. I suggest you get some really sharp close-ups of the sticker so somebody like Mswantek could make repros in the future, it's bound to be a rare bird.

I think I have several sizes of Zeus seatpost. Did you find out the size? Are you still interested?

There's French JPR seatposts currently for sale for good prices at eBay, both in 26.4 and 26.8 sizes....OK mid level quality but with nice two bolt micro adjustment.

Yeah!

Pharnabazos, I'm sure many of us would like to see a better photo of that Reynolds sticker.
