Fifty Plus (50+) - Checking out & wanted to say thanks.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Folks, I've enjoyed my visits to the 50+ forum, and wanted to say thanks for the sense of community. I've recently taken a second job (gotta figure out how to earn enough money to get the last kid through college and still be able to retire before I'm 85). So, I know I'll have to be very disciplined to get riding time in. This means I won't have time to cruise the posts on this forum any longer. I suspose I'll be able to check in once in a while, but I've really got to be careful with time on-line.... it just seems to disappear. So, happy trails (for those off road); smooth tarmac (for those on road); and, keep on truckin' (for the bent riders).

Keep checking in- And the odd comment won't take long. With luck- it won't be long before you can return. If it is a choice between The forum and riding- get the riding in. Lose that and it will take a long time to get back.

Got an alternative for you- Kids at College waste a lot of time so find them jobs in their spare time. I was lucky in that my daughter got a part time job that had flexible hours in the evenings and she helped me get her through Uni. All I had to pay for was the Car- the Uni fees and the Drink. She paid for the rest but I am still wondering what that was.

So long for now. Hope to see you posting again someday. Make the kid pay for part of it. He'll appreciate it more.

Thinking of this place as a virtual bikie Starbucks....we'll keep a seat for you until you're able to lean your bike against the window again and buy us all another frap. You've been one of the stalwarts here, NOS, with always good posts and your own point of view.....

+1 to that. Your thoughtful posts really kept the air in my tires, NOS. All the best with your plans and I hope they pay off in more ways than you can imagine just now.

So you figure you won't be able to squeeze in 3 or 4 hours of surfin' time at work? I always called it "research" time.

So long & a big +1 on having the kid earn some of his way. It was traumatic for my oldest son but he got through, always found some kind of work & landed a great job upon graduation.

I give you credit for what are your obvious efforts to see your kids through school - been there, dun dat. It ain't always easy, but it does pay dividends.

Mine have finished and, thankfully, are having some success in the working world, now, but, I probably will have to work until I'm 85.

OTOH, if I had a choice whether or not to do it all over again, I would do it all over again, even if it meant having to work until I was 170 (that's 85 x 2 - quick at ciphering, aren't I?).

Good luck, and stop back when you can.

With 3 college tuitions going on myself I can totally relate to the Bank of Dad mentality. Hang in there and I hope we can continue our discussions before too long. I fully expect the topics not to change much over the next several months. At least they have over the past couple years!!!

That's how it goes. Just at the time we should be thinking of retiring, we're really thinking about a second job.

Miss ya, NOS, but riding takes priority over talking about riding, any day except maybe when it rains. Drop in when it rains, huh?

The "work your own way through college, kiddo" concept has merit, but I can tell you from personal experience that carrying 28 units and working 40 hours a week led me to dropping out of school and never going back. Part of it was the lack of sleep, and part was realizing how little college had to do with the real world. Nothing put things into perspective like a philosophy professor questioning the "nature of reality" while I worked the swing shift in a sinking, itchy fiberglass fabrication factory every evening.

Do what you have to to get your kids into -- and through -- college!

Yeah, I worked my way through as well. In those days a high school education got you a good job that paid good money. Now an undergrad degree is equal to the high school diploma of 40 years ago. I’ve put my kids through college and one is finishing up her Masters at the end of this semester. I wasn’t going to pay for grad school, but we made a “deal” and she fulfilled her end of the bargain. But I agree with Paulie – it’s worth every penny!

Okay, enough about that – it’s all about the OP and we’ll miss your input to the forum, hurry back ASAP!!
