My 75 year old father was riding his bicycle near his house in the New Orleans area. Without getting into the details of the case, he was struck by a car that indicates driver negligence, IMO. He suffered a severely fractured leg, underwent major surgery to repair it, spent a long time in the hospital and through rehab is now not able to get past using a walker, thus the effects of the accident seem to be permanent and have diminished his quality of life (what's left of it) considerably.
He was given a summons by the responding officer, as he was being wheeled away by the ambulance. He is now pursuing damages from the driver, but it sounds like his lawyer is not-so great (at least my father suggested to me he doesn't think he's doing that great of a job.) The driver also sounds very lawyered up, moreso than my Dad, and they have the summons on their side. To complicate things, the case has bogged down since Katrina hit, and I think it is not on the top shelf for this atty., who relocated outside of N.O. for a long period of time after the storm.
Does anyone know how I can locate a top flight accident atty. specializing in accident reconstruction, preferably a cycling advocate who knows state laws well as they pertain to bicycle right-of-way?
