Why do you need a wrench and a bolt to perform that task? :D

What about keeping the existing employees?
That's what I was wondering as well. It doesn't mention anything about having established mechanics, sales persons, etc.

The only reason I've ever frequented an LBS, was because they had a good mechanic. When he left - I stopped going.

I now buy 95% of my stuff off of the internet, and only go down to the LBS when I need something right away or don't feel like paying for shipping on a $5 part.

I even purchased my last two frames off of the internet.

As cool as owning a bike store would be, I think living in BFE and selling bike parts out of your garage would be more profitable.

Yes but just because you own a shop doesn't mean you can't have a website with mail order... you can maintain an excellent local customer service record AND sell stuff over the net. Maintaining a large inventory and clearing it out over the net will give you lower distributor prices because of your volume.

Just hire some kid to sit in the back who knows how to use a tape gun and has some common sense about packaging items. Then he just has to label the box and make sure the UPS guy takes it. It's pretty simple!

I think we should scrap the stripper idea. The city could shut us down.

Augh, a mail order fulfillment business with hyper competition, inventory systems, customer service issues and extensive dealings with UPS. Nooooo thanks!

+1 For what it's worth, Performance has a store in Ventura. Might very well be the reason this one is for sale!

The only LBS I go to in Ventura (when I'm in the neighborhood) is Matt's Cycling Center,
http://mattscycling.com/

That's where I sent my neighbor when he has his heart set on/wanted to buy a Schwinn World DBX for commuting and an all around bike.

Eh the computer part is simple! Dealing with UPS and the competition.. well that's another story.

At the company I work for there is an hourly print out of orders.. the pickers pick the orders.. drop them at the UPS station (where our people box up the order) it goes down a line, scanned and placed in a UPS trailer... we fill five 53' trailers a day... ramping up as the year progresses. (we don't sell bike parts BTW:( :o )
