You got the "better" bar at least in my opinion. The EC-70 is really a comfortable bar. My bike should have had that same bar but instead it came with the thinner (non aero bar style) FSA K-Force bar. I think my bar is far to thin but I am getting used to it. I may try some gel tape next time to thicken things up a bit.

Did you find the thicker tape made a big difference?

I changed to using red cork tape and my gosh it really is a thin set of bars now.

Too bad my bike was "early build" and had a different spec than later versions. Such is life!

I haven't had enough time on the bike to know if the thicker tape will make a difference. On my Synapse, they put something like this (http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEqProduct.jsp?spid=25684) in it since I was having so many problems with my right hand and it took care of the numbness I was getting in my pinkie... well, mostly took care of it.

I hope the thicker tape and wider bar will be all it takes for this bike.

I took it out today for only 18 miles and the bike's a blast, but my body's going to take a little while getting used to the different position. Oh well, thank God there's Advil.

Hi,

When they did the fitting did you end up with a position that was much different than your older bike?

Everything I hear about the System Six is good. :)

Yeah, the position isn't as upright as it is on the Synapse and the bars are lower. Also, the systemSix is a 54, and the Synapse is a 53. It's going to take a little bit to retrain by back. It feels great when riding it, though, it's just a few hours afterwards that I'm feeling the difference.

I figure it's going to take a couple weeks. I'm going to get the Synapse switched around to be closer to the systemSix once my back is happier. I just hope that switching back and forth between the two isn't going to be an issue in the interim. If it is, I'll just ride the systemSix until I work all the bugs out in my body. :)

Just another update:

The next day I took the bike out twice for a total of 37 or so miles. The back issue's gone and for the most part my body is doing great with the fit. I may have to bump the seat down a notch, though. I didn't notice any problems last night, though.

This bike is a great hill climber, now I just gotta build up my legs to compliment it!
