 So this is the purchase you were talking so excitedly about last night. Nice bike! You'll find time to ride it, John. Of that, I have no doubt. :D

Oh yeah, Cannondale. That should be plenty stiff! They even assigned you a race number already, #46!:D

I've seen those wheels and wonder why one red spoke. Got any ideas?

The single red spoke is a quiet declaration of style to recognize the hallowed Helium Wheelset of the past.

Are you going to be doing Baldy on Monday?

Yeah, guess I should take the stock number off.

I think the red spoke means and extra hundred or two. ;)

I tried one of those, too, but I didn't spend as much time on it as I would've liked. The Dura-Ace worked better for me, though.

Are you going to be doing Baldy on Monday?Don't think so -- I have to pick up my (real) bike from the shop that day and test out the new 50/34 compact. Riding the touring bike the past week has been a pain -- I've definitely gotten spoiled!

Did you get the SI compact crank?

Already had the 50/36, just trying out a 50/34 for a bit to see what kind of difference it makes with the climbing I'm looking to do. I'm not doing any racing, so if it makes it a bit easier on my knees on the long climbs, I wanted to give it a run.

You didn't have to buy a whole new crank to get the 34 did you?

That's it, I'm going out to paint one of my spokes on each wheel red - can't be left out of the special wheels club!

Back on topic - nice ride!! Do you frequent Incycle in Pasadena often? I usually stop by just to "browse" once every two weeks or so.

I have a 34/50 SI compact crank on the Synapse and love it. I'm going to use the 39/53 for a while on the systemSix, I kinda like the workout, but may opt for a 36/50 later on.

Nice pick on the bike.

I picked up a SystemSix Si1 a five months back but mine is the boring red and black paint job. I had to take what they had at the shop as the deal is just to good to pass up.

I love the bike and am really glad I sold my 6 month old bike to get the SystemSix. Now I just need to ride this for a while so I dont feel guilty upgrading in only 6 months. 1.5k (or so) miles so far and loving every single one!

I bet it looks great in person. See you in DV.

I went from a tripple (i know tisk tisk) to a compact 36/50 and that was enough of a bump up for me. I never could figure out why the Si1 has a 36/50 and the Si2 has a 34/50 but it does.

I doubt I would notice a difference going down to a 34 but every little bit helps when those hills show up at mile marker 85.

Could youvdo me a little favor and look at your hoods for me? I want to know if the "durace" lable is horizontal with the pavement on your bike. My bike was a switcheru job (I wanted a compact 52cm with the Si1 components so they had to swap two bikes around) and I think the shifters are to high up on the bar. Mine look to be far more upright than yours.

Finally what bar did your bike come with?

Thanks for the help!

So far I'm really happy with the bike, but I do feel somewhat guilty that I upgraded in a short time like you. My other bike is a 2006 Cannondale Synapse Carbon with the 34/50 compact crank, which is a nice bike, as well. I'm keeping it, though, and going to alternate between the two. :)

The top of the hoods aren't parallel with the ground, if that's what you're asking me. Is yours more like my Synapse?

It will treat you well. I could not believe the difference between my Giant OCR carbon limited bike and the system six.

About the hoods. I see on your system six that the seem to be positoned further down the bar than mine.

One the side of the hood there is durace written on the rubber. I was just using that as a reference for the angle of the shifters relative to the bar and the ground. On my bike the durace lable is going up at a pretty good angle and was trying to see where your shifters were positioned.

The shop that put my bike together really messed thigns up but the price was right. Hopefully I can get it all back in order as time goes! So far it has had an extra spacer in the rear for the casset, the chain was 3 links to long, and the shifters seem out of place.

Oh, the bars are as spec'd on Cannondale's website, the Easton, EC-70 Carbon. The demo bikes I rode had different bars, though, and had Hutchinson tires instead of the Maxxis tires that are listed as the standard equipment.

JP,

I remember you saying that you needed some gel inserts, like bar phat.. The Incycle in San Dimas has it in stock.. Maybe you can have them call over and have it delivered to the Pasadena store.. I bought some yesterday for my new cross bike..

They found some and added it for me, but I'm not sure if it's enough. I've got some Specialized gel insert in my Synapse that's a bit thicker than what's in this one. I'll know pretty quickly if I need something better, my pinkie will start going numb after a few rides. Thanks!

Hey, are you going on the GMR ride?

That is quite possibly the best thing I have read all day!

Well done!

Also et me know what you think of the new chainring once you get your bike back. I keep toying with doing that same thing when I change my chain out in the next few thousand miles. If it makes climbing easier it would be worth the price of switching it out. Thanks.

Hey, are you going on the GMR ride?

You got the "better" bar at least in my opinion. The EC-70 is really a comfortable bar. My bike should have had that same bar but instead it came with the thinner (non aero bar style) FSA K-Force bar. I think my bar is far to thin but I am getting used to it. I may try some gel tape next time to thicken things up a bit.

Did you find the thicker tape made a big difference?

I changed to using red cork tape and my gosh it really is a thin set of bars now.

Too bad my bike was "early build" and had a different spec than later versions. Such is life!

Yeah, I'm pleased with them, of all the bike shops in Pasadena they've been the most helpful for me.

I got the bike fitted today, it'll be fun testing it out now.
