That slacker rode only 80 miles on the 26th, But I geuss he made up for it in the days after.
I am green with envy, I wish I had the time and resources to pull off a cros country roadie...sigh, maybe someday :)

How does a guy get his company to sponsor him - or at least let him have at least three weeks off to do this trip?
In modern America's no-frills business world, I don't know anybody who could take three weeks off and expect to return to a job. Or at least not in in the private sector.
How about you other people on the forum. Could you get three weeks of worry-free time off and still be assured of returning to your jobs? Of course, teachers and public employees can get this benefit, but how about those of you in the private sector?

How many people can get 3 months off...paid? OK, I am probably one of the few. I work for a private sector test scoring company, although all of the contracts are government, so maybe that says it all. I have several friends that work for the same company as I do, and it is a lot of fun to be 28 and still have the summers off to go out and play with your friends.
I don't think my girlfriend would let me take off for a cross country ride, but maybe I should ask.

Pete! Thats a ton of miles a day! I ment the site in general didnt have much information on it. I think its awesome that google has this page linked from there index page, there going to introduce bicycle touring to upto 50million people! :)

I noticed the link way before this thread started, and was disappointed in the lack of information. Why couldn't they have put more stuff about the rider and his equipment, goals, etc.? Wouldn't need photos or graphics, just some interesting text. Instead they just invite you to go photograph the guy, which is cool if you happen to live on the route he's taking, but I don't....
Of course I'm glad they did have anything at all about cycling, that part is good, but it does seem to me they missed a big opportunity to make more of a Statement.

Jon, i agree, i first saw this page ~two weeks ago, its really hasnt been updated much. I did send them an email telling them to include links to other bike touring pages... yes, i included a ref to these forums :D

that reminds me. I found a interesting web page about a yr ago. a guy took a trip down the the west coast from canada to just inside the California border. he kept a journal every day and had all the stats and about the trip and equipment. pics too..wish i could remember the web sit

It looks like Chad reached the end of his trip. Kind of disappointing link from Google. Very little info.
Did he enjoy his trip? It seems like days of 150 miles are a tad much for the typical touring cyclist. All riding all the time. After all...a bicycle is easy on and off, for me checking out the scenery along the way is important.
