So, in the DC area we've just had our first major snowstorm of the year. I've just gotten back into cycling this year, so I'm not too familiar with how well our trails fare in the snow. Do any of you know how long I'll probably have to wait before the area's major trails(such as the Mt. Vernon, Cap Crescent, Rock creek etc.) are suitable for cycling again? Right now all I have is an old road bike I picked up at a yard sale...
Mt Vernon will take awhile. Lots of shady areas and lots of run off means re-freezing overnight. Not sure about the others so you may have to stick to the streets once they clear up. What area of NOVA are yo ufrom?

w&od is similar. the closer to the city, the faster it clears, but i suspect this weekend might still be sketchy. see you at hains point!

How about the Custis Trail? I imagine it's a mess behind the sound walls.

i actually had the idea for a trike-plow for the trails a little while back. haven't had access to a welder in awhile, but the real issue for me would be storage. maybe the park service would hold onto it...
