Mountain Biking - Oh crap!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

View Full Version : Oh crap!

darn it, has been searching for a bike (for fun) that would categorize it self as a All-Mountain, I only end up with Epiphany, well went to competitive cyclist and I end up making the bike around RM15k.

So I went searching again, and sadly I ended up at Trek's Fuel EX line and im stucked there. I got addicted to the FUEL EX line. Oh my gawsh, Im totally addicted to the Fuel EX 8, check this out http://www.treknology3.com/2007/trek/mountain/pages/f8.htm

I believe they are clearing the past XTR models and decided to package it with the Fuel EX8, what you need to do is just change the shifters to the new XTR and you get ur self, one hella of a bike :D, and its weight is around 12kg. Not bad for a Marathon XC bike. (Actually after thinking and decided my self, I decided that I want to ride longer and further instead of faster, which means I am supposed to look for a comfortable XC all terrain bike instead of a XC race bike and its weight should be around 11-12kg) The irony.....

Oh well, when I work, maybe I get that instead of Epiphany :) damn 07 Trek rocks

So you're falling down too much on the current bike that you spent months dithering about.

Now you want to by a burlier bike to do more "all mountain" stuff.

This will be entertaining/comical to watch.

Yeah, be sure to upgrade those shifters, 'cause, you know, all previous incarnations of XTR blow @ss.

I will say it again...Jamis Dakar XLT! Very tough frame, nice'n'plush.

Just build one, dude.

Sure, you could buy a SC Nomad, but for less than the price of a Nomad frame, I built:

Dakar XLT-Fox Van R coil shock (shock on the way)
Fox Vanilla R 130 fork
XT derailleurs
XT cassette
LX shifters
Hone crankset
Hope Pro 2 / DT EX5.1d / DT Comp wheelset (OTW)
Avid Juicy 5 brakes
Thomson Elite Layback seatpost
WTB Rocket V Team Ti saddle
Easton EA 50 stem
Easton EA 70 HiRise handlebars
Lizard Skins Logo Lock On grips
FSA Orbit Z headset (OTW)
Shimano m505 pedals
Kenda Nevegal 2.35" DTC tires (OTW)

(all said and done...I'll only have $1409 in it)

Once I get the new stuff installed, it should weigh around 31lbs. (maybe less) Still tough as nails for all around riding. I won't do full-on freeride or full-on XC with it, but that's my style. A stairgap here, some singletrack there...a little bit of everything. Just as long as I can get some air;)

Not following per say, I just don't want to go through that episode where you were being pickey with every single aspect of the bike.

Wheelhot, if all you're looking for is fun, go out & ride your bike. And if it's dark outside, get some lights instead of another bike.
