I'm planning a trip to San Francisco and would like a detailed map of both paved and mountain bike trails around the Bay area. Can anyone provide me a link or address where good maps would be available. Thank you

Get the San Francisco Bike Map (from the SFBC as Mhendricks linked) - it's $4 in any Bay Area bike shop. However, it is only San Francisco, and pretty much limited to urban street riding.

For some great offroad and rural riding check out the trails and country roads in Marin - get the Marin County Bike Map (http://www.marinbike.org/Map/Index.shtml). That'll run you about $12 in most Bay Area bike shops, and in any Marin bike shop. Once again though, since this is an official map, you might not get information on all the trails (legal or not) so for more the less well known mountain bike trails in Marin I suggest going into any of the Marin bike shops (http://www.marinbike.org/Resources/BikeShops.shtml) - especially towards West Marin (ie: San Rafael, Fairfax, Ross, San Anselmo) - look at the MTB maps they have and ask the guys behind the counter. Marin is the mountain bike Mecca, so you'd be hard pressed not to find a plethora of information from the guys in the store - just don't give them "I might get lost" look otherwise they might be hesitant to tell you anything.

I'm originally from Marin, but now live in San Francisco, but now I ride back out to Marin at least a few times a week (when I'm not riding in the City) and hit all the rollers and the hills. I'm a roadie, so if you want some good road rides check out my RouteSlip routes (http://www.routeslip.com/routelist.php?user=5517) - sorry a bunch are just stub/commute routes, but there are some gems in there.

I'd also suggest checking out the sites of the local bike shops (I'd post links, but I think that might get me in trouble with a mod!). Many will have a "Rides" section with routes and maps in some cases. Also, most of the local bike clubs have ride routes/maps. Here are a few local clubs (local for me anyway!):

Hope you enjoy your trip here!

Thank you all for your replies. I'm looking forward to the trip, can't wait to sit on at a side walk cafe, drink coffee and look at girls that aren't wearing rain gear and rubber boots, what treat! If you see someone riding down the street with mildew on his helmet, that's me.
