Mountain Biking - disc brakes and quick release levers

I'll preface this by saying that I know next to nothing about disc brakes. I'm planning a singlespeed and would like to put some disc brakes on it to learn a little more about them.

I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to put a quick release skewer on the front wheel of a bike if that wheel has disc brakes. This is probably an ignorant question, but I haven't found too many discussions about it in my searches (google and here).

It's no problem whatsoever, lots of bikes run discs with just QR's.

The Avid BB-7 is everything you need.

Out of curiousity, what is the appeal of single speed bikes?

I don't think this is a stupid question. There was some controversy (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/julesandjames/home/disk_and_quick_release/index.html)when discs first came out-- the braking forces near the hub completely change the forces, and there were some problems reported. I don't know that I would use a Ti skewer, but QRs are pretty much standard with disc systems these days. I don't give is a second thought.

Just make sure they're decently tight.

Sometimes when I ride my friends rigs and their QR's arent tight you can see the wheel pull to the disc side under braking.

It will work fine, just don't run a rotor larger than 7"

Lots of people run 8" hydro's with no problem on a QR, just make sure it isnt loose.
