Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - anyone know anything about pake cranks?

i'm thinking about getting a pake crankset. i'm looking to spend around sixty or so on it, and pake seems to be the most attractive bet... but i have to order it through soma and i'm not sure about their online store.

anyone have any recomendations?

there was a thread about them a little while ago, with pretty much no real opinion of them, other than they are most likely just a rebadge of some other crank. they look fine to me, probably not the lightest, if that's important to you.

also, from the picture they look like they could take a chainring on either side (or 2) which to me makes it a double crank, not a track crank... (are there other differences?)

I have a set if Pakes. The are rebadge Sugino RD or RD2, not sure which. They are good enough for me.

I'm no expert, but I seriously doubt they're Campagnolo. Besides, why would a company want to hide the fact that a part is indeed manufactured by Campagnolo?

From what I can tell, the cranks take double chainrings, but the setup works fine. I run a set of Truvative Elitas on my Madison set up the same way.

Pakes are rebadged sugino cranks, I'm fairly sure. Eitherway, the suginos could function as a double, but look fine if you put the sprocket on the outside. 99% of people wouldn't know it could be used as a double.

currently i'm riding on the inner position with my doubles. my chainline is so perfect this way, and since it's running so good i've been apprehensive to change anything...

but, i do have a longer bb spindle on there than i need. i think it's a 109mm or 110mm. if i got a 107mm or something around that size i would, theoretically, be able to mount my chainring on the outer position and have good chainline, right?

Normal inner to outer gap is 5mm. You would therefore need a way shorter spindle to use the outer position, in theory 10mm shorter if everything is symmetrical.

the sugino RD uses a 103mm spindle. The only bottom bracket that short that I know of it the one that sugino makes to match it. You can order it from harris for 30 bucks.
If the Pake crank is a rebadged sugino RD, sixty bucks is an alright deal. Are they retailing for that or are you buying one used? If theyre retailing for that, I doubt it is a rebadged sugino. Same with the campy, theres no reason someone would rebadge a sugino and then sell it for less.

Yeah I miss-typed I meant Sugino not Campy. Which is why I have RD or RD2.

The guy at my LBS even said they were just some Suginos.

I just bought the Sugino RD 48t 3/32 crank and Sugino BB from AEBike.com for $80 total the cranks were $55 and the BB was $25. Came in yesterday, seems like good quality stuff for the bucks. But I'm a newbie at SS/FG. The IRO group frame will be my first. So I hope this stuff holds up fairly well.
