Hello

I suspect most of you don't know Anchor bikes. It's a Bridgestone Cycle brand available in Japan. They make some pretty nice high-end (and low-end) bikes.

I'm thinking of buying this (http://www.anchor-bikes.com/bikes/cx900.html) bike. I would use it mostly for commuting and touring, but would do some off-road stuff with it too. The listed price is $753 in Japan.

The frame is a double-butted Cro-moly (not aluminum as it says in English at the top of the page). The components are mostly sora - nothing special. I'm learning to do my own repairs and upgrades, so I wouldn't mind wearing out the cheap components and upgrading them.

Any thoughts on this Anchor CX900 bike?

Thanks!

While I don't think many people here can read Japanese, almost everybody here would agree that test riding a bike before buying is key in making your decision. The one thing to be careful about is jumping onto the cyclocross bikes before exploring bikes made for touring or commuting. From the looks of things, that Anchor bike looks like it is made for a mix of riders: commuters, beginners, tourers, etc..

I guess the price is attractive for what your looking for, but be sure to ride the bike and ask around (especially in Japan) about this bike.
