Mountain Biking - Tires that fold into a box?

I was just at Walmart and went to look at the bikes and bike parts and noticed that mountain bike tires come folded into a small square box, about 6x6x6 inches in diameter. It's been about 4 or 5 years since the last time I looked at bike tires for sale, but I remember tires used to be hung from a rack because it was impossible to fold them like that. What is the deal with these folding tires, are all MTB tires like that now, or are these some kind of low quality tires that I should stay away from? They're obviously made from different material if they can fold like that because I've never seen any MTB tire that maleable.

Don't ever shop at walmart, especially for bike parts. Real folding tires are made with kevlar beads instead of steal. Who knows what the walmart ones are.

The beads most foldable tires are made with Aramid (Kevlar) yarns, allowing them to fold unlike a steel bead tire. Folding tires are generally lighter in weight as well.

Just for kicks, I cruised through the bike aisle a month or two ago in Wal-Mart. They had WTB Motoraptors in kevlar bead. I was kind of surprised. Granted, those tires are extremely easy to slash.

And yes, I know Walmart can't match the quality of a LBS when it comes to most types of bike parts.

- i used wire-rimmed 700x27 Speedblends on one of my rides... they're made in the Land of the Rising Sun and came figure-eighted in a small box - super-quality tires with a great colorful ride at a good price (US$19 each from, of all places, target.com)...

What is your point? I have never had a tire last a year--- and I am talking Michelins, or any other real brand. Six months is a long lasting tire.

I never use folding beads, sure they're lighter and easier to put on, but they just dont suit my riding style.

that's because you need the strongest, most advance tire bead technology that money can buy in order to land those road gaps!!

My mobsters are foldable, and almost impossible to put on.

Shopping at Wal-mart for biking stuff = bad.

they hardly ever were riden and only on the road it semmed to be more sun and water that did it
