Hi guys,

I will be getting my first MTB, it is a slightly used 2007 specialized hardrock comp disc,

it cost $380, is it reasonable? how do you guys comment on this bike?

I have read the mtbr review about this bike, and found the main problem is the front rotor.

what should I be checking for before I pay for the bike?

Should I bring it to the LBS right the way for a tune up?

You're saving a little over $200 on that price--for a 2007, so it's a great deal for that bicycle. The Hardrock comp is probably recommended far more often than any other for a starter MTB. I think you're getting a great deal on that--assuming all is in working order. Are you able to test ride it? And yes, I would take it to a bicycle shop for a basic tuning--unless the current owner is like me :) I have a very rigorous maintenence plan for my steeds and I do all of my own work. I've sold stuff too, and make sure it is clean, relubed and in flawless working order before I sell them. My only concern would be why the seller is selling his Hardrock so quickly (it's a 2007 afterall).

The reason the owner sell his bike is because he is leaving town for his job,
I found it on Craigslist.
I don't think I can ride it around because of the location we decided to meet,
but is there anything I should pay attention to? frame? brakes? hubs?

Very important--before buying, check with the police department to see if the bike's been stolen. First, ask the guy for the serial #'s (if he refuses, he's probably up to no good). Then, when you go to look at the bike, check to see if he gave you the correct ones. Hopefully it's not likely the guy is trying to sheist you, but better safe than sorry.

Is the serial number printed on my bike? where is it located?

The serial number will be on the bottom of the frame (bottom bracket). The only thing you need to keep in mind is that when buying used you have no warranty. Other than that it sounds like you are getting a great deal.
