A Happy Chinese New Year to everyone!

(Andy Lau hopes you have a Happy New Year, too :p)

As I mentioned in the Whatcha doin' thread, my neighbourhood sounds like a war zone. Here is a video I took last year when I was partaking in the fireworks fun:

I'll try to post other videos to give a good feel of the war zone aspect. Now, however, I'm going to try to sleep in spite of the continued explosions (though they've been dying down since 1 am)

Edit: Ok, here they are. Keep in mind these were taken around 12:45-1:00 am, well after the peak of explosions (midnight)

Edit 2: Well, YouTube seems to be taking its time to process the videos, but I'm not going to wait for it. The movies will be available eventually. Good night, all!

Here's to the coming of Ding Hai:
Legend has it that in ancient times,Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and Buddha named a year after each one. He announced that the people born in each animal's year would have some of that animal's personality. Those born in pig years tend to have excellent manners, make and keep friends, work very hard, and appreciate luxury. They are very loving and make loyal partners.
Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Hillary Clinton, Mozart, Ernest Hemmingway & Arnold Swartzeneger
to name a few were all born in the year of the pig.

Well, I didn't want to open the way for any jokes, but I was born in the year of the pig, but I'm in good company. So, yay.

I wonder if Asian restaurants will serve roast pig during the festivities. That would be messed up.

Thanks, Steve -- wild boar seems an improvement over pig!

125 people injured (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/02/18/asia/AS-GEN-China-New-Year-Injuries.php) in the fireworks in Beijing last night. Somehow I'm not surprised

Is it bad to BBQ the animal during it's year?

I don't think Chinese people would let such conflicts get in the way of a good meal...
