General Cycling Discussion - chat rooms are scary...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've never been to this one, but I just came from one in hotmail and it was hard to talk to someone who wasn't all about one thing... well, I'll let you figure that one out. I think I'll stay here where its safe and the only thing I have to think about is how to get my post count to look like Chris L.'s:). Oh, and thanks Joe for making this place a safe and non-scary site;) .

I think Koffee Brown has a few answers to that question.
Yeah, chat rooms are pretty scary, that's why I hardly ever visit any of them. There's something about the anonymity of the Internet that seems to make some people act in ways they wouldn't normally act in day-to-day life. For the most part we're a little more sane and (dare I say it?) civilised around here.

Theres a debate (war) going on in mountain biking about which is better, hardtail or full suspension. You do mostly road stuff don't you Chris? Have you ever thought about putting some suspension on that puppy?:D Sure it would make it a little heavier but in return it would make you buffer.:D

I've got some front suspension on my baby now. I take it off-road on occasions. However, for some reason the Tweed Shire Council is trying to pave everything in sight at the moment (GCCC did that a while ago), so my options this side of Murwillumbah are somewhat limited.

Several years ago, I chatted a lot on IRC. I got tired of the weirdos and perverts though, so I gave it up. You can meet some pretty scary people on IRC.
Now I only chat to the people who I want to on Yahoo Messenger.

OK now I understand. You said they were scarry - so I went there. You are right I have to down load one more gatesware POS. I got scared and left.

Yeah, the chat rooms are for sexually frustrated freaks. I am soooooo glad that MSN and Yahoo messenger are out there now. I can add and block anyone I want now, with no fear of running into someone I don't feel like running into.
Whew!

Freaky places. I have hardly bothered with them in years. Topic means nothing and they are all flooded with spammers and automated users that do nothing but post links to porn sites. I used to try going to science chat rooms a lot and I'd get an occasional word about something scientific, and then a lot of "a/s/l?" questions (that and, "Hey there, do you speak Klingon?").
I've tried the one here, but I seem to try at times when no one is on.
