I'm seconds away from telling a guy who lives a few towns over that I'll give him $300 for his "flawless" 1994 Trek 1400. It's all aluminum (fork and frame), RX100 (equivalent of Tiagra), 25c tires...

A guy at a LBS told me not to pay a penny more than $300 and that he can sell me a brand new Trek 1000 for $500. I don't want to miss out on what appears to be a great deal on this used bike, but I don't want to get suckered either!

Help!! Quick!!

I say go with the LBS.They will probably give you free tune ups and you have the option of a flat or drop bars on a Trek 1000.
