This is probably crazy, but since I started maintaining a regular training schedule - about 2 months ago, hitting 150+ miles a week, etc - I noticed that my hair appears to be thinning. I swear I never noticed anything prior to all the training this year, and now I see it. I have heard that sometimes hormones can assist in causing hair loss. Anyone notice their hair thinning as a result if hitting the bike more often?

I know this probably sounds nuts, but I am just curious if anyone else has noticed anything.

Thanks,
Paul

It might not be nuts. If you are not getting the proper nutrition to sustain the physical activity you are current doing, this could create a shortage of some nutrient in your body which might lead to thinnign hair.. This is just a guess.. or mayee the rest of your body is getting more firm and tone and just makes you're hair look thinner :)

My hair bid fairwell at about the same age as you are now. It had nothing to do with cycling!:D
I miss my hair when I hit my head or it's really cold out. I also have to wear one of those caps under my helmet to avoid my wife making fun of those burn stripes on my head.;)

Kev and uciflylow are right. This may be due to poor nutrition or your genetic predisposition. However, the latter called androgenic effluvium usually starts in the temporal areas (where side burns are and at the top (where a yamika would sit)). If the hair loss is diffuse this may be telogen effluvium due also to sudden weight loss ....have you lost alot of weight recently? In addition, it can happen two months after a major physical or emotional stress. So did you have a major illness two months before you noticed the hair loss such as pneumonia, flu, etc. ? In that case, it will regrow back within two months of the hair loss. Definately not the biking.

I had noticed losing some hair. I have started on Propecia and Rogaine because mine is genetic.

Don't worry about it ,if its gonna happen it will. I have been thinning for years so about the last 4 years I have been shaving my head as close as possible with clippers. Having to work outside makes it maint. free and is easier to have better hygiene. If I get really hot at work I just run the faucet over my head and dry it off with paper towels, and it helps me to keep my hardhat cleaner. Sometimes less is better!

djpluv, by the looks of your avatar, you've got plenty of hair

uciflylow, I'm with you. I'd much rather have my hair fall out than mess with that stuff, but that's just me talking.

I have been shaving my head for over ten years now, I have been faster either, but my wife loves me for being bald.....

Overtraining without the right protein ( or some kind of thing like that) can lead to hair loss among even young people. Talk to a doctor or dietician about it.
